I was wondering if anybody else was having this problem. After upgrading to the 8700g and installing the blackberry messenger, I no longer get the chat bubble in the home screen to let me know I have an awating message. Anybody else have this, I went into options to see if i didnt check an option but didnt see one. any ideas?

Does BB Messenger require BES or can those of us with BIS use it too?

It's a blackberry feature, so you don't need a data plan. Pin to Pin is free as far as I can recall...perhaps someone can jump in if i'm wrong.

You're not wrong - it's included in the data portion of the BB service.

Oh ok. I was under the impression that RIM provided this for us gratis. I guess nothing really is free. Thanks for clarifying, Seattle.

Well, it is provided gratis, sort of, but without a BB plan nothing works aside from the phone function. You just don't have to pay extra on top of a data plan to get pins. That's my understanding of it anyway, I may very well be wrong. But I think only phone functions work absent the data plan.

It works fine on BIS. It is part of the data plan for both types of services, except for those BES users whose companies IT policies prohibit PIn to Pin.

Hope this helps.
