Default My Cingular/ATT 7100g has ARRIVED!!!

Please Login to Remove!

All i have to say is WOW!!

Cool little phone. I am trying to activate it now, so I haven't had a chance to play with it too much.

It must be unlocked because they sent me an ATT SIM and it has Cingular logo's on it.

Now that ATT and Cingular are the same the phone works on both networks but likely not on other GSM GPRS networks. I would guess it is locked.

the 7100G is really here in US at Cingular? I went to 2 different Cingular stores today and they looked at me like I was from Mars.

Blackberry site says the 7100g is coming to Hong Kong.

FYI

The 7100 is avail by calling 800-388-3235 which is the att business number. you need what they call a foundation account number, which is a number you get , apparently, by signing up for a business account. They told me I had to go to an att/cingular store to sign up with proof of my business and 2 ids, then i could call back and order the 7100. Pricing they gave me was $400 w no committment, $350 w 1 year and $300 w 2 years. I called 4 cingular stores in my area, and they had no info on the 7100. i tried using my current att cell number, but they would not do it.

I received my 7100g today. It is branded as Cingular. Came with the same version currently on AWS' site: package 4.0.0.234, platform 1.8.0.121, apps 4.0.0.198.

I love it so far!

I think there is a newer version on BB's website. I'm going to check it out.

The BB 7100g for AT&T is NOT UNLOCKED!! It has the Cingular logos on it because there is no such thing as AT&T Wireless anymore. It will only accept an AT&T SIM card. This device is only available on the Cingular Blue billing systems right now, and supposedly only to Sponsorship accounts (i.e....you work for a large company that has a Foundation Account Number.

Please clarify. I don't believe if its AT&T branded and a locked device that it will accept a Cingular SIM card.

Am I missing something here?

It's actually Cingular branded. Cingular logo screened on the front - cingular browser icon (no more mMode), etc.

It came with an ATT SIM, and unfortunately I don't have access to a Cingular SIM to test to see if it's unlocked. I am however going to test with a friends tmobile SIM here in a bit.

The 7100g will work with either a AT&T (blue) or Cingular (Orange) SIM card. It will NOT work with other SIM cards. That has been tested.

NJBlackBerry is right, it only works with blue or orange, nothing else. Remember ATT doesn't exist so all phones are branded Cingular but will work with ATT sims

(I'm a 7100t owner)
I'm interested in the data plan/rates/bandwidth/network/blah, blah blah.
Will this service be better and faster for browsing than TMO is? I can see going to Cingular if it's a lot better/faster.

Really? Since GPRS moves data in the 30-40kbps range, how can you tell which network is "faster"?

I heard a year ago that in some cities (such as here in Detroit) AT&T was supposed to be rolling out the high-speed EDGE network. I didn't hear an update since the whole Cingular thing.

Supposedly the 7100 is capable of EDGE and if AT&T/Cingular have their high-speed up and running, it could be interesting.

I will be willing to help with benchmarking if there's someone who's had experience with that sort of thing.

I've heard the same thing about EDGE, hope that's true, that would pull me from TMO to Cingular. Any Cingular customers know more about EDGE?
