Default 7130c vs. 8700c

Please Login to Remove!

I'm stuck trying to decide between the 7130c and 8700c. Is there ANY difference besides actual size (screen, keyboard.) Same exact menu navigatioons, features, etc?

Both the screen and the keyboard are larger on the 8700c. The 8700 also has many convenient one key short cuts. In general the 8700 is the email king while the 7300c is more phone like.

Wirelessly posted (Liv's BB8700c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

They are really close to identical when you open the case up. I went to a 7130c from an 8700 and I am very happy. It is very important to look at size and keyboard however.

I must say I miss the shortcuts. Pressing "c" used to give me compose. Now it gives me a dial pad.

The 7130c has at least the following two advantages over the 8700c:

1. Longer standby times (18 versus 16 days)
2. SRAM memory cache (up to six times faster access to memory cache than SDRAM)

Shortcuts and suretype are things I couldn't and could live without so I go for the 8700.

can only speak from the standpoint of having had the 7100t and 7105t, and now have an 8700g.

having the full keyboard is so much better than suretype. people complain the 8700's too big and looks stupid against your head - i use bluetooth in the car, a bluetooth earpiece, and then have a dock-n-talk in my office where i use a regular phone. i think i've had the thing against my head 10 times since march.

get the 8700 if you want a true business / smartphone.

I went from an 8700 to a 7130c and have not looked back. Shortcuts are no longer an issue because of PocketDay.

I have PocketDay configured to launch with the side convenience key, and then launch shortcuts through PocketDay. It works great.

Suretype does take some getting use to, however, the size difference of the 7130c compared to the 8700, is well worth the challenge.

Both are awesome devices nevertheless.

I agree.

Since I started using Pocket Day I'm not sure the lack of shortcuts is an issue any longer.

Can anyone compare battery life between the 2 under normal usage, 1-2 hours of cell phones, 30 emails sent/received and 1/2 hour of internet access. I get the impression that the 7130 should be a bit better but are we talking about the difference between 3 days without charging vs. 4 or 6 days vs. 3 (hopefully not 2 days vs. 1).

Agreed. The 7130 is a lot easier to carry and use as a phone. It is also a lot easier to operate one handed (never while driving, of course )

Isn't the tethered modem capability a big difference as well?

I agree, the outbound audio quality on my 7130 is a lot better than my 8700. I tested it on my office voicemail in a noisy car and airport with the phone and my Bluetooth 645. Much better than my 8700 and I am pleased.
