Hi I am about to purchase my first every blackberry. I will be under the T-Mobile network and was curious which model would you all recommend. I'm torn in between the 8700g and the 7105. Can I get some pros and cons of each model? The 8700 seems easier to use with the full keyboard. Is it worth the extra $200? Any other noticeable differences? Speed, etc? Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

i had the same issue i got the 7600 and love my decision if u got the money just buy it internet is so fast and the full keyboard is great i think it is more than worth the money plus the 7105 is not all that much smaller for not having a full keyboard my vote is the 7600 i dont no how much different the feature set is but i think the whole feel of the 7600 is just nicer

Get the 8700 i had the same issue as well and posted here and got a lot of good advice, if you get the 7105 and discover that it's not as good as the 8700 you will be locked in a contract and won't be able to change it for 12 to 18 months, so spend your cash wise as you could make a big mistake, for me i got the 8700 over the 8707 based on the good information i received here and haven’t looked back it's the best phone I’ve ever had, so in my opinion i would get the 8700, also the battery life is great, got the phone last Wednesday charged it up and used it a lot (as you do when you get it) still showing full battery, hope this helps !!

8700. Iv a 7100t that is basically the same as the 7105 appart from the apearence, an now am wishin i spent the lil bit to get a 8700 when i got my contract. Hopefully ebay will sort that out tho.

the 7105t's large(r) keys and predictive text via SureType allow for one-handed typing, which for me is a must-have.

my wife's 8700g's Intel processor and EDGE speed are tantalizing, but a 713Xn will be available on T-Mo in one way or another, so the temptation can be suppressed (for now).


ordinarily i would say if you've never used either before, then the choice should come down to the keyboard and which will be more convenient. but with the 7105t near its EOL and the performance gap now so great, you will regret a 7105t the minute you surf an 8700g.

For me, the 8700 is a much more complete BlackBerry. The full QWERTY keyboard, double the memory, improved CPU, larger screen and faster network have it all over the 710x series. Since I don't believe T-Mobile is going to be selling the 7130 model, that never entered into the equation. I know lots of people who love the 7100 and 7105; I am not one of them.

Here's my answer:

Whichever you choose is the one you're going to married to for the next 2 years. The previous posters before me have already given you the pros and cons of each device so I will not repeat that part.

Do keep in mind, however, that you're getting the 710x series for really cheap these days but the difference will be wiped out in just 2 months of use, especially if you're a busy professional. Now, tell us, is it worth the $200 difference over 2 years?

Last month I was on the same quest, 8700g or 7105. I went to TM (who I love as my carrier) and played around with both. The 7105 is smaller, so more like a phone but harder to type on. I also believe it does not have the faster EDGE speed. I had heard by many that the 7105, though cheaper, did have problems with phone reception too. The TM rep said the 8700 was definately the better choice. I've had no problems (so far) with phone reception. OK, it's a little big for a phone but with all else that it can do, I really don't care. Its your choice of course, but ultimately you will not be unhappy with the 8700...

My first BlackBerry was 6510 from Nextel, which was great in its time, than I moved to T-Mo and my first BlackBerry here was the 6210, than I upgraded to the 7230, than the 7290, one day a "friend" came to me and said he wanted to trade my 7290 for his "new" 7100 so I said ok (it looked really nice plus it played adp files as opposed to the mono midi's that the 7290 played) after 1 day i wanted my 7290 back, Being that I use the email, and bbm feature A LOT I could not stand the 7100 so I went back to my 7290. Now I own the 8700 and it is great.

have used the 7100 and 6290 and now a proud owner of a 8700r ,, hands down this is the best blackberry i have used and would not go back to anything else,,i have tried the treo also,, will say the 8700 wins hands down, for speed and overall ease of use,, i hated the double tap or the t9 word fill on the 7100 it got anoying, i had it for 4 months before switching to the 8700,, pay the diffrence i did,, well worthit,,

I currently have a TMO 7100 BB. If you think you'll use voice a lot more than email, the 7xxx form factor may be more attractive to you because it's more phone shaped. With that in mind the 7100 is great for reading email. However, composing email is a different story. If you type common words that are in it's dictionary then TrueType is great. But if you have to type acronyms and model numbers and names, etc. that won't be in it's dictionary, then TrueType is a nightmare because it's like texting on a phone except the phone keeps trying to fix what you're entering for you.

TMO GPRS is weak in the places I need it, so I'm going to switch to VZN after they release their 87xx BB (rumors seem to be saying September '06 these days).

Yeah, go 8700, I had a 71xx series and hated it. Switching to the 8700 was a HUGE upgrade imho.

8700g was my first BB coming from a SK2/SK3 and Treo 650. The full keyboard alone should be enough. I just can't imagine using a BB without the full keyboard.

The BB 8700g is simply the best PDA (Non Windows, I don't bother using Windows based PDA's) on the market period. I'm not even a typical user and I love this thing. Learning more and more functions each day. I don't use Enterprise email and I am not really a power email user. Connecting my Gmail account to forward to the BB was a breeze and it is lightning fast.

The list is way to long. Just use the search and you will find enough pro's to get you to a TMO store. That's what i did.

The 8700 by far is the best blackberry currently on the market I do bb support for one of the local carriers.I deal with the bb by far the most and of my compliants I get they are mostly on the 7100 device. Granted the market is not as saturated as 7100 yet. I also own a 8700 device and personally have had 3 devices alll with keyboard 7230,7290,8700 and would never go to a device without one and as far as features the 8700 is the best of both worlds ie all of the things the 7100 has plus the new features of the 8700.
