Red X problem

Does anyone else have problems where they get a red x when sending emails on their devices? If so what causes it and what can we do to fix it?

I had this problem with a use yesterday. Kept saying bad formatted message bla bla bla in the eventlog. On a whim I removed him from the server and removed the mailbox information then I readded him. So for so good.
This was on exchange 2003 / Bes 4.1

Open the message on the BlackBerry. What does the message status line say?

I'm having the same issues (Exchange 2k3, BES 4.0). Thought it was due to the send as permissions until I found that not all users are experiencing. Will try the readd trick and report back but would love to find a real fix to this.
Error listed is "Unlisted message error"

Could it be that your carrier is down?
I used to have this problem when I had my BB7520. Only with my case, it was my unit itself. It seemed to not able to register to the network thereby when I looked at my status... no IP address is registered. Thereby when I do send my emails, it won't go through by indicating status as the red "X" icon right after I click the send option.

Ok tried removing my user, removing all bberry info from mailbox, and readded. Still same problem. Can receive mail, calendar/address book synch, and send PIN messages fine.
When I try to send I get an immediate red X.
IP address shows fine...any more ideas?

More frustrating details to add:
-All other BES user's are fine except the boss and myself (go figure)
-Created a new user in AD and added to BES, wirelessly activated on my bberry (after wipe) and was able to send from bberry fine.
-Activate my user on a different bberry, same red X when sending
-Did everything on the following article:
Article Number: KB-04157 in the Blackberry Knowledge Base for 4.0
That's it for now.....

Red X problem
Hey all,
We were having this exact issue. It all stemmed from the "send as" permissions for the BESAdmin account. I thought I had all the bases covered with adding the BESADmin send as permissions at the domain root level. However, for what ever reason the permissions did not filter down to certain OU's. Double check the individual security settings for each BB user and make sure that the BESAdmin user is listed in the security properties. After you do that, you have to shut off the BB router service for 20 min, so the cached security info clears. After that all will hopefully be well. Hope this helps ya.

So I fixed my issue late last night/this morning. Ended up using a nifty little program called admodify.net. Selected the 2 users that were having problems and checked the box for Send As permissions. Didn't work right away, this morning I awoke to a send-worthy blackberry!

is this applied through active directory users and computers?
I have tried this and I have checked the effective permissions and it says that it has send and receive as permissions but I'm still getting the same error message.
Any ideas?

I am having the same exact problem too. Tried to add "Send As" permission to individual users through Active Directory Users and Computers, and that worked for a while. Then it stopped to work, and when I went back to Active Directory Users and Computers, the permission setting for "Send as" has disappeared from the user's security setting. So stange! Does anyone have any idea about this?
Thanks,

No but check the effective permissions for the user (I think you have to click advanced)
Soundslike something is overwriting the settings for some reason.

Err, are you a memebr on AD of any of the "Protected Groups"? If you are you can set the SEND AS permission a hundred times and a hundred times it will be removed.
Refer to MS article: 907434 has the list of groups that will have your settings removed.
You can also examine (AKA Search for) DSACLS adminSDHolder Send As - this will lead you to sites that can allow the "Protected Groups" to have the SEND AS rights via the BESDMIN account.
I hope this helps!

Yes, Duke. You are absolutely right! I belong to the Domain admins group. Tried the DSACLS method last night, and this morning everything is working again!
Thanks so much for your help,
Ivy

I thought i would post that link in order to give you guys who need to assign an admin "Send As" rights another way to do it. Its pretty simple. Just remember to use the service account name not the admin(s) that are having trouble with the perm permission.
