- I take it you mean SQL 2005 and not SQL 2003? SQL 2005 only works with BES 4.1 so if you're running 4.0 you will need to use SQL 2000

Why do this. It is really staright forward to move your MSDE database in to SQL. This will mean a small bit of downtime for your users but they won't have to reactivate or anything.
