Default Bluetooth dongle compatibility problem

Please Login to Remove!

I have a new 8700 (very nice BTW) with T-mobile UK. My PC is running XP Pro with SP2 so I have the right kit.

I bought a Bluesoleil Bluetooth dongle so I could do bluetooth synching - the dongle was advertised as "8700 compatible".

SO far, if I use the Bluesoleil software, I can pair the phone and the dongle. However the Blackberry desktop software does not give me a Bluetooth otion - it is greyed out.

Then I read on the Blackberry knowledge base that you must use Microsoft Bluettoth drivers, not third party. But when I try to install the dongle this way, I get "driver not found" errors.

Anyone got any advice?

Many thanks

John

You must install a native bt device not a software based device (ie the one you are using). Take a look at Celink for native bt USB devices.

Thanks for the tip, Niteqwill. It makes sense.

What is Celink? A google search produced mortgage advice, nursing information and other stuff. But nothing about Bluetooth.

You can also try a Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter.

Thanks konTiki. Call me spontaneous but I just found a Belkin USB dongle on eBay and bought it! I will post confirmation that it works - or otherwise!

Default Belkin USB dongle - problems!

I promised to report back on this...

I bought a "Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter". If I install it using the accompanying CD, it seems to work OK - except of course, my Blackberry Desktop software refuses to "un-grey" the Use Bluetooth connection option.

If I try to install it without the CD (ie presumably using the native Windows driver) the hardware wizard can't find a suitable driver!

I am running XP Pro with SP2 pack installed.

So I now have TWO dongles (Bluesoleil as well) not working with my Blackberry 8700.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I thought BT was supposed to be easy!

Default Belkin USB adapters don't ALL work

I spoke to Belkin Technical support today.

The adapter I have is the latest model (F8T012) and it does NOT work with the Windows stack according to them. Only the older models do.

Progress I suppose.

I found this site very helpful and solved my Bluesoleil problems as a result.
