Default Reboot implications

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I'm new to the site and have a quick question about BES.
We currently use 4.0.4 Hotfix 3 with a variety of devices (mainly 7100) and I need to install some drivers for another app we host on our BES.
This requires a reboot to take effect so I was wondering what the implications for our users would be.

For example, will messages sent to their mailboxes during this period of downtime (likely to be just a few minutes) still be forwarded to their device once the BES services are restarted?

Cheers (in advance )

Matt

Messages will not be dropped, anything sent to your users during the downtime will be picked up when the BES services start up again.

Once your server comes back up it may take 15 minutes or so for mail flow to return to normal because the server will be conducting full mailbox scans for all of your users. Just do it when everyone is asleep

What mail service are you on? with Groupwise, a reboot causes an interruption in mail services that most users will not notice, though if you have very active message threads there may be a delay in delivery and/or synchronization. Pending messages will be delivered once services are all up and running again.

I appreciate the advice, Valj.
We're a follow-the-sun-support team so there isn't any official sleep time but just knowing that the messages will be delivered is great; we'll have to do it during lowest expected activity.

Thanks again,
Matt

Oops, sorry I meant to give this info in my original post...

Thanks for your input, hannahkat!

Just a heads up for GroupWise admins: Livelink - Redirection

And by delay that means 2-4 hours. This only exists for 4.1.0.41 and 4.1.1.9

This is also the case for 4.0.3, though it was significantly improved when we upgraded to 4.5

depends how many user you have, also if you have a distributed environment with regards to exchange servers residing in different geographical areas. also depends on RAM in the machine as BES is RAM intensive.

e.g. 50 users on same exchange server on same site less than 15 minutes
