Nice job with that. Is the my-tmo site where you can enter a un/pw and see all the phone activity? I have one for Verizon. What's the link for that if anyone has it handy?
And check your bill after your phone gets stolen. I had mine stolen, cancelled the service right away, but the thief racked up $80 in games/ringtones in the 8 hours between my call and when they actually shut off the service. He was smart enough to only use it to download, made no calls to people.

If you call and ID yourself as the owner and report it as stolen and request it be terminated they will shut it off as a phone as soon as they can. Just like a credit card. It may take a few hours to do that.

I think that is the million dollar question. I wish i was FBI agent smart to monitor the calls then bust the thief. Alas, my Clarice Starling career never got off the ground... anyway, I still dont have a definitive answer. Does calling the phone in stolen shut down the phone, or just the sim?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that you can report the loss or theft of your device and the operator can blacklist the IMEI, rendering the device useless.

They can blacklist the IMEI, but I don't know of any cases where TMO has done that... They just turn off the SIM.

Did some googling, seems like you have to go thruogh some channels... a theft report with the cops or something maybe, for things to happen.

I have t-mobile as well and I asked for insurance which is added to my bill each month something like 5-10 dollars. Does that insurance mean that if my phone was stolen it would be replaced. Or is my insurance likely going to be only protecting me from damage to the phone.

You bought insurance and you don't even know what it covers? Your best bet would be to ask T-Mobile. Find out exactly what your insurance covers.

They'll replace it if you lose it or bust it or whatever. They just take it out of service forever and you get another one. That should clear up the question that came up above about whether they blacklist the IMEI and just cancel the Sim. Before they issue you a replacement phone they have to make sure you just didn't sell it.
