Smile "Official" Blackberry Releases on Non-RIM Devices in the US

Please Login to Remove!

All,
I am new to the forum, but have been reading for a few hours some of the threads in this forum this AM. I am a longtime Palm Treo user--600, 650, 700P, but my hospital just "turned" off web access to our Outlook. We also have a BES and am being told this is the only option for me to get my Outlook while on the go--a Blackberry. The problem is that Blackberry's do not have many medical programs available, especially the most important ones that I use daily in my practice. I am trying to find a Palm Treo or Windows PocketPC (NOT Smartphone edition--must have touchscreen) that "officially" runs BB connect. My search of the main US carriers revealed the Treo 650 on Cingular (I am not thrilled going back to a device c 1/3 of the memory of my 700P). Lots of questions:
1. Any other's out there besides the 650 on Cingular?
2. Pocket PC's? I did see some of you all are using BB Connect on the Treo 750 and 8525 on Cingular.
3. Does Cingular plan to release BB Connect officially for these devices (750 is still in Ebay land at this point)? when?
4. What about the Treo 680?
I may yet be able to convince the IT folks to let me use a "bootleg" version of BB connect on a 750, 8525, etc., but there 1st answer was NO. Finally, they may give me a 7250 on Verizon (the officially approved Blackberry for the hospital).
5. Does it matter if they are using Verizon to connect to the BES? I should still be able to get on the BES from another carrier, right (ie-Cingular)?
thanks SO MUCH in advance to these questions!

You can get on the BES with any carrier. There is no "bootlegged" version of the software. Just find a link or page on the forum that tells you how to get it, and get it. It will then assign you a PIN, and call you service provider and add the bb service. Your carrier and RIM still get paid for the service, so you are not stealing anything. By the way, the hospital would have no idea of this, all they see is your PIN - plus you are not doing anything wrong!

Re. the Treo 680, i got this reply from customer service about 1 hr ago. Disappointing news... As for PC based machines, they tend to set up 1 connection for teh BB so you cannot have it on and surf the web simultaneously.

..the Blackberry Connect Software will not work with the Treo 680 Smartphone. It will only work with Treo™ 650 Smartphone. I suggest that you subscribe to our worldwide Palm newsletter so that we can immediately notify you about new released patches and updates. You have the option of signing up to the latter by going to the link provided below....
