Hey, Anybody care to help out us laymen who dont speak computer language, on the subject of loading PTT onto a tmoobile pearl running on cingular? I tried JIBI's instructions but couldnt figure it out for the life of me. Please can somebody give clear and detailed instructions (make believe you are explaining it to your 14 year old (before the myspace age)

If you're using the T-Mobile branded Pearl with Cingular, then you'd probably need the Cingular software version to get the PTT.

Yes you can, I did it along with a few others that I know of for sure.

The way I did it was to upgrade my OS at the same time. I feel that makes it easier.

There is a thread that has a ton of modified ALX files for all different devices. It also has links to the OS upgrades.

I simply downloaded the updated OS files, installed them on my PC, then downloaded the modified BlackBerry.alx and Platform.alx files from the thread. Once thats done, all you have to do is replace those two files in the installation directory of the upgraded OS on your PC.

Plug the device in, it should upgrade your OS, and install the PTT modules.

You should call Cingluar prior to the upgrade and have PTT added to your account. Its $4.99/month for 500 PTT mins, and $9.99/month for unlimited PTT.

After the upgrade, you should see the PTT app in your list. The first time you run it, it should initialize. Once thats done, you just add PTT contacts by mobile number. If they have a PTT enabled phone, it will add them, if they do not, it will error out.

Once you get it working, let me know and I can help you test it.

**EDIT: Here is the link to the thread with the modifed ALX files you will need. http://www.blackberryforums.com/ring...alk#post191267

Scoll down to the 8100 section and download the OS you want, and the ALX file that corresponds to that OS.

Greg

Until Cingular's comes out, the latest is .67. Follow the link in my signature to download the latest OS.

No problem... When you download the BlackBerry.alx file from the link I gave you in my post, it will download a file called BalckBerry.zip. Inside, there will be two files:

BlackBerry.alx
Platform.alx

You just need to copy those two files to the installation directory of the Handheld OS on your PC. The default path for the OS install is:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.0.67_P2.2.0.39

Those two files will already exist in the directory above, you simply need to drag and drop the ones from the blackberry.zip file into this directory.

As far as which OS to use, I used the newest one (Telefonica) and it works great.

Disconnect the 8100 from the PC. Now, on the PC find and delete the vendor.xml file. Then re-connect the 8100. It should automatically ask you if you want to upgrade.

Will you have problems if you do not have the PTT setup first?

When you go to run PTT for the first time, it will not initialize correctly. I think thats about it. It should still load the app on the device as long as you are using the modified ALX files.
