Latest Blackberry codename
Please Login to Remove!
I can say that the latest Blackberry is officially named "Momma Bear"
This is confirmed from a friend of mine who is a team lead in a certain area.
I can't really say much more, as I refuse to jeoparize his job position.
RIM has moles everywhere now.
If I have any new info I will post what I can.
I'm not asking for opinion on this matter, so please don't respond with any questions on the validity of this info.

RIMInsider-
Welcome to the forums and thank you for your contribution; however do not be surprised when you will be questioned on the authenticity of your post (particularly with your choice of username) as this is your first post to these forums.
As I am happy to see a new member contributing to these forums I do not take away anything from your post. The "codename" will only be used internally w/RIM employees, Program Managers, and/or Program Directors therefore not having any use to the general public (99.999% of the members of these forums).
Please do continue to post additional information as it becomes available to you from your "team lead friend"; once again welcome to the forums.

Thanks snowskier
I know the name can lead to a bit of suspicion.
I just want to make sure that any future information is not too top secret as somebodies job is in my hands.
Last night they had to continually go into the bathroom to check their e-mail as their NDA is very strict. In fact I dont even think they were supposed to have it out of the office.
I think the best I ever got was with the 8700 series 4 months before release, where I was allowed to hold and use it.
If I can get info on the new device, I'll let you know what I can!
Thanks for the welcome

Why would you even say this? Why would you even take the risk? Isn't your friendship more valuable than the ability to 'leak' almost useless information to a silly board like this?
I just don't get why you are so brazen about your source... it's almost as if you want to get fingered.. and by the way, this information is well known in Waterloo.. anyone with a connection to an employee knows this already.

Momma bear is definitely an accurate codename for a device, that is supposed to be the device after the first 8800, I believe its for the 8800 with camera

Uh oh even the Big BG god agrees that momma bear is a name! WTF kinda name is that though? Maybe it's named momma bear because it'll be full qwerty and they are looking at aiming it at that rich suburban soccer mom on the go that emails and wants a camera... yeah lame rationale i know!

I ahd the WiFi only 7270 about a year before it came out. The code name for that was "No One Will Buy This".

I believe the 8700 was code-named Polar Bear (in addition to the Electron, as most of us know), if I'm not mistaken. It appears they have internal naming for their devices on a few different levels. The "Momma Bear" code-name for the device wouldn't be suspect by any means, but I would likely edit out the parts of your posts concerning the NDA bits and your friend, etc.

Who cares about code names?
Just bring us the new model

Without codenames, can you even imagine all the wildly unfounded speculation regarding the 2 model versions of the 8800?

You bring up a very good point here.
Code names do indeed serve a very good purpose:
1) Clear identification of a new project.
2) Making me crazy with anticipation of an exciting new model.
Cheers......

define 'unfounded speculation'. no offense to your statement, but a lot of what's been said is, in deed, factual.

I agree with you. What's been presented here has been pretty factual. My premise was under the guise of having no model designation(s). As in, the 2 8800 models only show in graphic form with very little (and unconfirmed) leaked info coming out, it would be easy for people to speculate that the 2 8800's weren't even the same device (among other things), based upon the differing keyboards, cam on 1 but not the other, and any other nuanced differences noticed, etc.

Maybe it will be a device aimed at middle aged women. The papa bear will be the straight up corporate device ie 8800. the momma bear will be the cute one. and then the baby bear will be variations of the pearl aimed at the youth/consumer market.
The "BlackBeary" family?
haha
