Default Is there an Area Code lookup program?

Please Login to Remove!

I've heard of a program for the Treo that will automatically pull up the area code / city / state when a call comes in. Anyone know of anything similar for the BB?

Thanks,
TINB

I have an inexpensive program from Shrunken Head Software, called "Area Code 411."

That program is an easy-to-use lookup program for area codes.

However, that program does not alert you to the caller's area when you receive a call. I know that most or all Sprint phones have that feature. I believe it is built into the Sprint network rather than being device specific. Does your friend have a Sprint Treo?

A Sprint network feature, eh? That might be it. I wish it was available on T-mobile / Blackberries!

Is there a mobile website that will do this? If so, I bet Phil can add it to Berry411. I would like this also but not for every call, the ability would be nice.

Berry411 already includes a Reverse Phone lookup. Copy and paste the number from your call log into Berry411 and use the Rphone feature. If you haven't installed that module, prepend the phone number by rphone and it will do the same thing.

For example: rphone 123-555-1234

If it's a cell phone number or a private number, you won't get any results.

Okay, just enter the area code in Berry411 and Google it (or use BerrySearch).

http://www.thedirectory.org

or more specifically ...

http://www.thedirectory.org/pref

An absolutely priceless resource. If this could be integrated into Berry411 I'd be thrilled.

The syntax for the area-code lookup at thedirectory.org is:
Code:
http://www.thedirectory.org/cgi-bin/phonedb/lookup1.cgi?qac=XXX&qp=YYY
Where XXX=area-code and YYY=exchange-prefix

Shouldn't be hard to add that into Berry411 ...

If you know how to do the code then you can add the plugin for us. Go to;

Berry411 Mobile Search and you will see how to do it. I am code challenged or I would do it.

I just registered with Phil's Website and am waiting for a registration message so I can log in. I'll post the plugin info once I've set it up.

Hmmmm... no luck. The Berry411 plugins allow for only one input string but the area-code lookup program requires two input strings.

That's a good tip. I'm looking for something that will automatically display it on the screen when someone calls though.

Any ideas?

Has anyone found a solution/program that will automatically show the state/city that an incoming call is coming from? I'd be really interested in something like this since I get calls from all over and it'd be nice to at least have some idea of who an unknown number "might" be. TIA.
