Talking Any RIM Provider Techs Lurking??

Please Login to Remove!

I'm currently on T-Mobile and have been roaming back and forth in Jamaica with no problems. Roaming was seamless up to a week ago where i haven't been able to pick up Cable & Wireless's GPRS signal since, not even a gprs. Where i am i usually have full bars and i've done all the resets and network scans with no joy.

I've tried to trouble shoot it with C&W and they said they've had problems with other BB people finding a GPRS signal, after a day or so i called them back again and they said they spoke to RIM and RIM has confirmed there is a Roaming Code glitch in the provider software. Can you guys confirm this known Roaming Glitch and has anyone else here had this problem anywhere else.

I'm losing beach time efficiency!!

I haven't yet because i don't think its a TMO problem but a C&W problem. I'm waiting to hear back from RIM if ever.

You in Montego Bay area? If so when looking out main entrance or exit of the Airport look up the hill my grandparents place is right there - beautiful sunsets.

Sorry back on topic what about ur International Roaming on your account? Just a thought since its been a full week. I'm not a tech at tmobile; but this is usually overlooked of travellers by overtired reps. Doubt its an issue but a stab in the dark. Bug Tmobile if they can't fix it then they'll forward you to RIM!

PS pickup some sugar cane & enjoy conch soup on a late sunset!

I've heard of other people having problems in Jamaica also. But if you can't even get a gprs (lower case) I doubt it's something with the RIM code. If you want to test, you can use Application Loader to reload the software either while down in Jamaica or just before you go. If you still have problems, then it's not the handheld software.

If you go into the status screen, what does it say for signal strength?

Not getting GPRS sounds like a network issue and not RIM like stated above

Tier 2 has some trouble shooting they can do to resolve this as well

IF they are unsuccessfull
then have They would file the ticket and have OSC(enginrering) look at this from thier end or forward it to C&W OSC

Well the problem is that TMO has a data only roaming agreement with C&W and a voice agreement with Digicel (the other local carrier). Whenever the there is no GPRS signal the unit goes to the Digicel provider. I can only do voice then with Digicel GSM signal because C&W is the only Data roaming provider in the caribbean. . The BB always attempts to get the GPRS signal w/C&W. Since there is no voice roaming agreement with C&W then it wouldn't go to gprs, it goes to Digicel GSM.

I can only get a signal strength for Digicel which is full bars but can't test the C&W signal since the unit is probably getting back a reject code from CW when the device tries to authenticate. RIM asked for my PIN today so I hope they can provision something from their end and I'm waiting to hear back from TMO also. I'm thinking maybe my PIN got deleted or something off TMO's roaming list and that's why i'm getting rejected off the system.

Well i'm hitting it from all ends. CW is aware of it and they are waiting to hear back from RIM but in Jamaica things run in 2 speeds, slow and stop. I contacted RIM separately and they requested my PIN today and I've requested TMO Tier 2 also and waiting to hear back.

Actucally C&W does have voice with TMO

http://www.t-mobile.com/internationa...a&ctry=JAMAICA

Also I dont think the PIN has any thing to do with your issue. As it is a GPRS issue.

lets us know how you make out!

Yeah i know what the website says but its only data.

I just tried reloading the software but still no go. I hope to hear from RIM and TMO tomorrow. The CW tech was specific when he said it was a "roaming software glitch" that RIM told him was the problem but they have yet to give a solution. CW tech said it seems to be only happening to roaming units which leads me to believe the roaming lists are corrupt or got screwed up some how which could be on TMO's end. He even had another tech in my area with another 7290 working however that was provisioned locally and not a roaming unit. Everything was working fine and then one night it just went out.

I'll keep you informed.

Funny TMO just sent me an email saying that they have transferred my issue to their Wire Data Specialist for review.

What exact probs were the other people having? Were they on TMO also?

First, you can only have a connection to one network at a time....so if you only have voice on one, and data on the other, then you will only get voice or data.

I find it a bit fishy that C&W can't be found on the BlackBerry with a network scan. Even without getting into the GSM/gprs/GPRS stuff. A simple network scan should show C&W.

Something else you can try quickly...if the BlackBerry is set to manual network, switch it to automatic (or vice versa). Reset the BlackBerry if you still can't get a data signal. If that still doesn't work, try switching back to manual (or automatic, whichever it was set to initially). If no data connection right away, try another reset.

Not sure if they were on T-Mo, or other carriers. But they were having lots of problems connecting to the network in general. Not sure what network they were trying to get. They could only get GSM, no gprs or GPRS.

Yeah that's my problem exacty, only GSM on Digicel. Not even a gprs on CW at the moment. I've done all the network scans, resets and it doesn't pick up a CW signal at all.

I think i read somewhere where a provider system in Ireland was giving a "reject 7 code" back to units that were trying to sign onto the network thus not even allowing the units to even see the provider.

Thumbs up

Wow, finally got it work!!!

I took a non BB ATT sim card and put in my BB and was able to do a network search and picked up a CW signal. I couldn't even get GSM,gprs or a GPRS only a sos but at least it saw the CW network i did a register attempt. I thought i'd still be screwed but when i but back my TMO BB sim back in the unit and turned it on, low and behold my CW GPRS and emails started flooding in. I thought my BB was going to explode.

I can't explain it but i guess somehow the ATT sim got the network to see my unit once again.

Thanks everyone!!!

By the way i'm still waiting to hear back from tech support.
