Default Well its finally happened !!!

Please Login to Remove!

Got my corporate 8700 on 11th May 2006 as a trial model.

Over the last few weeks ive noticed that the wheel has become much more free in its rotation.

Well at the weekend it finally gave up - wont "click" at all !!! (in having withdrawal symptoms !!!)

It must also be in contact with something as my battery now only lasts about 2 hours from a full charge

Is this a repair or new device ??

As far as the battery drain issue, you should check to see what applications are running, and you can do that by holding down the ALT key and the ESCAPE (side button under click wheel) at the same time, and scroll through the active apps. Some apps like Google Maps drain the power pretty quickly if not closed on exit.

As for issue #1, the click wheel, your corp account administrator should take care of that with the provider, I think it sounds like you need a new unit, but someone else might have better knowledge of that problem.

It could be a defective unit or it could be due to poor coverage. The device will boost transmit power to compensate in such cases.

Actually, if you wore out a trackwheel in 7 months, a Pearl might not be the best device for you.

Why is that? Is the trackball on the Pearl even less sturdy?

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I don't know first hand, but according to the 8100 forum there is a variety of issues with it (cleaning, frailty, etc).

I had heard that myself - but suppose it doesnt matter really - If the Pearls trackball doesnt last too long either, maybe my nxt replacement will be an 8800 !!!!

Although have to say, If i was paying for it myself id be more than a little annoyed - yes i do use it a lot, but 7 months doesnt seem too long for such a critical component to last

The Pearl will be the first one in our company and the Comms guys would like me to report on its performance before they make a decision whether or not to roll them out to replace the 8700's

Did you happen to have BBToday or something like that on your device? If so, that drains the battery significantly. I had put it on and noticed a huge change in my battery life. Deleted it and the battery life went back to normal.

Something to think about when you get your new Pearl. Good luck with the phone. My stepmom has it and it's a real cutie ;)
