A high speed drill is handy for newbies. This is because with a slower rev drill can get gummed up in the plastic if one does not know how to drill or they use the wrong type bit.

I have drilled the holes in my covers with both a cordless drill [meaning regular speed] and a Dremel type tool. Both worked fine.

A big plus on Chinookman's tip to put some tape on the surface so to prevent scratches if the bit starts to stray or walk. I use metal tape.

With the cover on it sounds like a cheap transister radio. Glad I came across this thread. The sound is really excellent. Until I get the right drill but or an exacto knife I just take the cover off to listen to music.

I hope some folks don't get to anal about the mod and sound quality....This is not meant to make it sound like a set of reference speakers.....it's a phone if you want audiophile quality get another device.

If you're looking for a bit of clarity then this is a great help. I considered drilling the rubberized case but decided against it because of all the small dust balls already inside the battery area none the less I'm happy with the results for such a simple mod. thanks for the idea whoever you are....!!!

For someone who keeps her phone on vibrate 98% of the time the entire idea seems silly. And, if you use headphones the sound quality improves dramatically (obviously). Many folks use bluetooth listening devices as well.
I'll keep my phone drill-less, but, if drilling is a good therapy then what the heck?

when you take the cover off there is a huge difference, listen to a song, while its playing take the cover off and ten seconds later put it back on, the sound quality is pathetic.

Seidio says they are working on a door with this mod. As well as a door with a cover for the camera for those who need it.

Lets just hope they are not so overpriced that we wont want them.

A company responding to market demand my economics prof. would love this thread...lol......glad to see a company responsive to rapid market demand and sensitive to customer issues. But please keep in mind that as much as a company understands pricing, to ask a company to give Rolex quality on Wally-world prices is not realistic....and let's face it many of us have become accustomed to wally-world prices on most any consumer item......such is life...lol

I read about it and took my drill to the cover and the sound quality is way better and has a clean sound. If you are handy enough, I would try this easy modification.

I may try it now that there are covers available. I will probably go with more holes, smaller drill bits. I have a set of high-speed precision bits that will do nicely....

Look at the letter "O" on your keypad. That size hole is about right.

Wouldn't they have to change their cases to match?

i wonder if the battery cover was tight and actually had a piece of glass in front of the speaker on the inside cover.. but with that small space i think there's too much sound waves bouncing back and forth

Awesome work man, but just so everyone knows, there already is a company who makes replacement doors that have the vents pre-cut into it, I just ordered mine yesterday, around $20 with shipping... not sure if it looks as good as the original, but I'm looking for functionality
