FYI - I am sure most know this but I figured I'd reiterate it!
I was just reading over my "Temporary" Cingular contract and noticed that although you have 30 days to terminate without penalty,
you only have three (3) days to cancel and also get back your activation fee.
The exact words are:

"Activation/Upgrade fee not refundable after 3 days (excluding national holidays)"
...
"If you cancel service within the return period but do not return the equipment within the return period or if equipment is not returned in like-new condition, you may be charged the full retail price of the equipment."

So for those that have "temporary" contracts like me
, ensure you are aware of that and also that you will be charged for any services you use while "temporary". I turned my 8800 off at the store right after I got my confirmation txt msg. Hopefully I can unlock it tonight, and call and cancel tomorrow (and wait for the bill with remaining retail price!)
