Default MicroSD Help?

Please Login to Remove!

lol

So I got a 2gb microsd disk for my 8800...

BB recognizes it, okay, good... but it won't let me do anything with it, lol...

So I'm like, "MEHHHHH" ...

So i go Options -> Advanced Options -> Media Card and there's a message saying "Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted."

So, lol ... either one of two things happened... 1. I inserted the card wrong, but I don't think I did... and 2. I have a defective disk,l ol...

There's probably something simple I'm missing, so help? :D

Is the media card inserted correctly. The little holder that lock down the MicroSD as a couple of tabs on it, the MicroSD has to slide into the holder under these tabs. The holder then folds over so the card go down flush allowing you to slide the holder into the locked position.

are the metal contacts facing each other? What brand was it. I popped my Sandisk in and was good to go. You may need to format it.

At the risk of stating something too obvious, did you format it while in the Blackberry?

Greg - Yes, the card is inserted correctly. At least from what I followed in the book that came with the 8800.

Stin - Yes, the metal contacts are facing each other. The brand is Patriot, from this link, newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220220 which was linked in a stickie in this forum...

Andre - pffft... I call it disk, card, whatever... if it can store media, then it's a disk :D

John - I tried that just now... It says "Media Format Failed"

So I have no idea what to do now,l ol...

Sounds like it may be a defective card. Did it come with a SD adapter? If so, put it in that and see if your PC can even recognize it.

I think it is time to get it replaced. I have the Sandisk 2gb model and it needed no formating and recognized it as 1.8gb right after the install.

I'm having the same problem. I have tried a Sandisk 512MB card and a Transcend 2GB card with both giving me the unable to format message. The cards work in my pc and in my other phone. I have tried formatting the card using FAT in my pc and still no go. Thanks for the feedback.

Default Media Card failed to format

I inserted the card and initially if recognized it and showed how much space etc. I now am getting error messages saying that the card needs to be formatted. When I try I get failure. I have removed it and replaced it. Still no go. Any suggestions?

I bought a 1Gig MicroSD card (Sandisk) from Radio Shack and it worked 'out of the box'. Make sure you SLIDE the card between the metal tabs (you have to lift the metal hinge up but it does have tabs) and then push down.

Might be you have bunk memory too and have to return it.

Lastly, what's with all the 'lol'? Just curious.

It says in the BlackBerry users manual that if you type "lol" more than 100 times on the BlackBerry keyboard, the microSD card will be permanently disabled.

The only remedy for this is to stay off of BlackBerry Forums for a six month period, and it should come back.
