Rcm, that's my thinking too. But interestingly enough, I had another 8700 before this one and I had to exchange it (it wouldn't charge). That was 2 days ago. However, both BlackBerry's have had loose casings. However, the battery door on this one is worse. Thankfully, I've used less than 30 minutes talk time on the phone, so it's easy to exchange it. That said, I can't see myself going to the store again to exchange it -- it's one of those issues that really bothers you, but no one else would notice. However, if I hear from some of you guys that your 8700 casings are nice and tight (especially at the top), then this one's going back regardless.

The only difference I can think of is that I have a Cingular 8700. You have a Rogers 8700.. True they are both the same... but maybe Rogers has a different sweat shop to cut the die press of the 8700 than Cingular does. Or then again I have dropped mine enough that it fits perfectly together.

Lol, well I certainly don't want to drop it to see if that will improve things!
Anyone with an 8700, let me know what the top of your device is like. I want to get as many opinions on this as possible to see if I should take it back (again)!

Happy Monday all,
I am looking to purchase a phone asap, looking at the 8700. I go on blackberry.com to compare. There's the 8705g, 8700g, 8700r, 8703e, which is the newest model, which is actually better. I did the comparison, which helped, but I really want the newest version of this series. Any info is much appreciated!!

i have used the oem plastic holster for every bb i have ever owned and after 2 years on my 7290 i noticed small rub marks from moving it in and out of the holster but thats after 2 years... on the 8700c i have not seen any scratches at all and some people say their bb's have fallen out of the plastic holster well mines has never fallen out and i have even put it to the motorcycle test not by choice but b/c i forgot to put it in my pocket.. didnt fall out and i was shocked it held on after arriving home after my commute in which i must say i did pull a wheelie or two on a deserted road... the clip bottom line works very well...

Yeah, thanks jetspeedz. I'm using the plastic holder and like it better then any other case/holster on the market. Again though - to all 8700 users, if you squeeze the top, do you notice that it's not tight and/or creaks?
Thanks

Alibi, all the 8700 phones are 99% the same, but the models are tied to the service provider (T-Mobile, Cingular, etc.). You might want to make sure the carrier you choose has the signal coverage you in your area, and weigh the phone models as well. I have the 8700g, love it. The 8705g is a "newer" model of the 8700g, but the only difference is it is more hearing aid compatible.

I've had my 8700c for about 8 months and no issues.
The few faults my model has and I wouldn't call them faults, quirks maybe....
- Battery cover is a little loose but it has never fallen off, it is secure just moves a little.
- The keyboard moves from side to side slightly, again nothing major and doesn't give me problems at all.
- The seam at the top of the device is narrower on one side than the other, but nothing noticeable unless you look closely. Again hasn't cause any issues with the device performance.
To answer your question, mine does not squeak when squeezed but my girlfriend does

Thanks for your input hailer... mine has a loose battery door too.. i just put a piece of a business card in it and that's that. Like I said, the only thing that's actually bothering me is the top that seems loose. Again though, my first 8700 had a loose top as well.

I use the plastic holder and cannot see any marks or rub marks ( 8 months)
Keyboard does not move
I cut a business card and placed it under the battery door, nice and tight now
Never dropped it out the holder but I did drop it from my less than nimbal hands

Hi, I've had my 8700g for about 6 months now but in the UK you get a leather case with no 'top' and after a short time the BB 'rides' up and falls out! I've lost it on 2 occasions! I take it that it comes with a plastic belt clip holster in the US? I used to have a 7290 with the holster and thought it was great.
Now the cheeky part! I cannot find the plastic holster for sale in the UK so was wondering if someone inthe US that doesn't use theirs would like to sell it? Please PM me and we can do a deal!
Thanks
