Default Turn off SURETYPE

How do you disable the automatic word typing? I like to spell it out completely instead of it providing a word. I have a 7100i.

Start an e-mail
Press and hold the * key; ABC will appear in the upper right hand corner and you will now be in tap mode.

Love it. Especially on an 8100.
Tap is insane (to me)...

People who are frustrated with SureType (i.e. "it doesn't work.") aren't using it properly.

When SureType is enabled all you do is type your complete word. At the end of the word SureType 99% of the time has the right word. As you are typing don't pay too much attention to what letter it's putting up. Type the complete word and then see what SureType is entering.

John is right. If you watch the letters Sure Type puts up it will drive you crazy. Sure Type does a great job. When you press space after a word it adds that word to your custom word list if it's not there. It seems that everything that comes into the BB like email, SMS goes to the custom word list. I go into the list every so often and remove the junk.

I've also noticed that the custom word list contains words it has found in email messages. Over time SureType really gets good and accurate...but you do have to give it time to populate the list.

Yes give it some time and it will learn words from what you type and from your email.

I really like SureType and I also take a little time to make sure that the words in the custom list are accurate... it can also learn your mistakes!

I love the suretype!! I didn't like it because if you made a mistake and kept typing I couldn't go back in the text to delete the error. But then I learn you can hold shift and roll the wheel to go back and edit.

Is there a way to prevent words from e-mails going into the Custom word list? Sometimes these words can be quite technical and often they are words that I would rarely, if ever use.

I know they can be removed manually, but often I don't have the time to keep checking the Custom word list to remove them.

Thanks for any suggestions.

CarBob

I have a 7130c and Suretype drove me crazy at first so I turned it off. I got my Daughter a BB Pearl a few weeks ago and now she has me using Suretype. Give it a chance and let SureType complete the words for you.

I have also learned that by going into options I can set SureType up where I can have it insert a group of words by saving the group as Specified Case. For example I set "ilu" to insert "I love you Dad!" in the body of what ever I am writing since I always close my SMS or e mails that way.

Speaking of that, does anyone know if you can highlight multiple words on the word list (like using ctrl/enter) and delete a bunch at once?

Well I'm going to give it a try again after so many rave reviews. It's back on and I will try it again.

The Pressing * comment to turn Sure Type off is a good one as sometimes when typing a word in the subject line, they always seem to be not typical.
