I installed 4.2 and all seems to work well other than the integration with my bmw. I have bmw assist and for some reason it will not pair. Is there anything special I need to do? I had it setup with 4.1. Do I need to delete the 8700g from the bmw and then repair.
For some reason the BB is always in bluetooth mode. If I want to use the phone, I have to "activate handset". This is a real pain.
Anyone with ideas on how to deal with bluetooh and my vehicle would be greatly appreciate.

8700r/Rogers Wireless.
Has anyone tried it with this?
If so, what results?
What is the vendor ID to add for Rogers Wireless (is it 332?)
Thanks,

Anyone have issues with the browser? After loading a page the links sometimes are not activated or link-able. They are underlined in another color, but you can't get the focus/cursor on them. The only way around it is to go into select mode and then back to page mode and then they will activate. Or, similarly go into

Plus, even with home movies and Multiplay's media player, I couldn't get converted videos using Seabyrd to play and I've seen posts that video is a no go on 8700s. I have TMo 8700g.

Phil,
If you'll check jibi's post on the modified .alx's you'll see the best path is to delete all vendor id's from the .alx file. This will make all the themes available to all carriers. IMO, adding a specific vendor ID is much more of a pain that just deleting the vendor ID strings.
In addition, I believe that jibi has posted his modified .alx file in the 4.1/4.2 thread.

everything is a success....except.... i noticed when i go into my profiles then normal i only see 3 out of my 4 email accounts. so when i receive mail to my gmail i do not get an alert..
any ideas?
actually got it, i guess you can only do 3 emails i deleted the account and set it back up. this time the bb email address disappeared. this is probably discussed in the 8100 or 8800 section since they got the v42 first.

Hi, i tried that link and it takes me to a download area (in spanish i think) but only lists 4.1 software. We are talking about 4.2 operating system software aren't we? I know the desktop software is 4.2 and that's available and has been for several weeks.

Fairly moderate problem over here. Downloaded/Installed everything no problem. Phone has the new software. First problem is that I have no browser icon. I found the browser, by attempting to switch application with the icon they gave Google Maps. Problem is when I attempt to do it I get an error message that reads, "Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device." Any suggestions how I can get the browser going? Email works fine if that's a question anyone may ask.
EDIT: Found it. Had to register the Host Routing Table.

"Old" Zen Theme?
I am disappointed that the new Zen theme installed with OS 4.2 displays Icons for Applications, instead of the scrolling list in the center of the screen. Does anyone know if it is possible to install the "old" Zen" theme from the Bharti or Telestra releases. I find the list of names of apps much easier than the icons.
Thanks.

I'm quite keen for V4.2 - to be able to (finally) listen to wav files (voicemails) on the BB.
Ok, so I have downloaded the update.
I got the 4.2 desktop version (165Mb) - delete the vendor.xml file in the /program files/common/... directory.
Launch Desktop manager - and nothing...no action.
So, I decide to force the issue, and go to Application Loader and go to Add package - and navigate to where the update is located (in Common Files/RIM/Shared/ - not exact path, but you know what I mean).
I add each available package.
The installer won't install....it complains that the file:
net.rim.platform.ecmascript is not available.
The application "BB PGP Email Library" cannot be loaded (is the exact error).
I then look in the common files/Java directory and can't find the ecamscript file at all (so the installer is right on that point).
So, basically, has anyone seen this yet? and if so, any suggestions?
Perhaps my 4.2 Desktop Manager is not right (it's from Optus/Australia).
V4.2.0.14 (Aug 27, 2006).

Yes - I have 4.2 Desktop Manager (downloaded it - 160Mb) - and also this new 4.2 for the BB.
Weird thing is...(right now) was that I opened up DM just to check the version (again) and hey, for the 1st time it noticed the BB needed to be updated - and prompted me to go ahead and update - but of course failed with the same error...So, once again, de-install DM, re-install (BIS option), and of course, DM now doesn't ask me to update the BB...
I'll keep trying...
