I just moved from BIS to BES and I want to install gmail mobile. Unfortunately the IT policy won't let me access the gmail site so I can't download the application. Is there another site or an alternative way to install?

If your IT Policy blocks INSTALLING applications, there's no way around it.

However, if you just can't access the site and you have both an Internet Browser and a BlackBerry Browser, you may be able to do it.

The three browsers route to the Internet differently.

The WAP Browser routes through your provider's network, so if you try to go to Yahoo (www.yahoo.com), you may be redirected to a "branded" version of Yahoo (Cingular does this).

The BlackBerry Browser routes through your company's network, so if they block a site, it will also be blocked if you try to access it through this browser.

The Internet Browser routes directly to the Internet, so try going to the site using that browser.

This is kinda the whole point to being on BES and THEY control your device for security purposes. Defeating this is not easy and likley impossible. Security is still number one and if BES is blocking it, you are blocked.

I'd recommend discussing this with your IT department rather than trying to circumvent IT policy. They placed the policy for a reason, whether you agree with it or not. There are companies that treat this as an offense that can lead to disciplinary action.

If you want full control of your Blackberry then buy one and keep it off the company BES. You don't want private data on a company BES-connected BB anyway.
