T-Mobile May Upgrade BlackBerry Internet Service This Weekend

the word out in the Internet rumor mill, specifically from Pinstacker theOutsider, is that T-Mobile will upgrade to BlackBerry Internet Service 2.3 this weekend. For individuals and small businesses, BIS is hosted service that allows users to access their e-mail with RIM's push technology.

Here's what's new in BIS 2.3:

# Added Support for Yahoo - two-way synchronization of deletes and read status to and from Yahoo Mail

# Added Support for Gmail - no longer required to enable POP to get Gmail to work and virtual real time delivery of mail

# Delivery and Read Receipts - you can see when an email is delivered and read by another BlackBerry user, similar to how PIN messages show the check mark with the letter R (read) or D (delivered). There will be settings around this feature.

# Auto-forwarding - automatically forward an email sent to the blackberry.net email address to another account. This will allow the message to be available on the PC instead of just on your BlackBerry.

# Attachments - able to attach files up to 3MB to an email or MMS, such as a picture saved on the BlackBerry.

# Voicemail attachment playback - if you get an email with a mp3 or wav attachment, up to 500 KB of your voicemail you can play it back on your BlackBerry.

# More languages supported

# Wireless Meeting Requests - can be sent, received, accepted, and declined between BlackBerrys.

# vCard format viewable. The information can added directly to the BlackBerry Address Book

Any update on when this may happen? It drives me crazy that a mail centric smartphone can't open/reply to meeting requests... And I'd love to get my Vonage voicemail without all the workarounds I currently use...

While I'm not even sure I have a clue what that says, I'm pretty sure it's barely related to the topic...if that...

The BIS upgrade for NA is delayed last I heard. No one's said when it might go ahead now

My sources says June 2 is the release of BIS 2.3 for North American carriers. But I'm sure each carrier will determine when its implemented.

At least you are hearing something again- this issue dropped off the map and I was really hoping for this version to fix some things that I don"t like.

Thanks whsbuss

Will OS 4.2 release at same time as BIS 2.3?

You are right -- I can now download and listen to .wav attachments in my emails - hooray...
The meeting request still aren't working right, but the .wav were my #1 request.
