Tell me if this is coincidence or related.... After installing the update, my earpiece went out. I can only talk over the loudspeaker...

Just change the 102 to some other number.
Thanks again for the information. That PTT icon in the task switcher was really bugging me!

Default Firewall locaked to enable after update

OK, not been on blackberrys for long...just moved from a long history of Windows CE (yeah yeah, i know...what took me )

Just upgraded my new 8100 (branded Vodafone UK, but using on T-Mobile UK), to this version...and now my firewall is locked to enable Its not exactly a problem, but would be nice for me to enable it myself (and disable too if i want)

Only other time i seen this is;
1. when unit is on BES
2. when unit has been 'sync-ed' with a Desktop Manager setup for BES, instead of BIS

Now, I already made the mistake of doing point 2 with another unit ( good job I have spares at work hehe) , so I know I aint done this...any ideas? Is this set in the firmware? If so, can setting be changed and firmware reloaded?

The handset speaker problem has been an issue in the past. Not sure what causes it.

Seems as though the server may be overwhelmed. This is my third try at downloading the software as it keeps timing out after a few mbs downloaded. Hey John Clark......did this fix the connection issue with Telenav?

Anyone help? Am I thinkin wrong here, or should the firewall not be able to be changed?

Yes, for me it did. I use the BT-359 and TN 5.1 works beautiful for me now. TeleNav has issues with other BT pucks now, I guess, but with their supported puck all is well.

Hi John Clark

Wonder if you could comment on my post regarding firewall being locked after upgrading to this firmware?

Just want to know if it is normal to have it locked to enable or not

Ta muchly

My media card isn't recognized after firmware updates. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Have you tried removing the card and re-inserting? Silly Q I know, but...

wonder if this is linked to my problem...media cards can be encrpyted to device and/or password...did you have encryption on before upgrade?

Anyone notice that weird "audio drop" that was apparent in the last Rogers release? That was reeaaaalll annoying and would rather not upgrade to find out it's still there.

No encryption. I did re-insert it. still it doesn't recognize it, asks me to format it.

My personal 8100 on BES with 4.2.1.96 OS has the firewall permanently enabled and I can't disable it. It has a very tiny lock symbol next to it. I have another 8100 with 4.2.1.96 that has never been on a BES and I can enable and disable the firewall. My guess is that yours has been on a BES at one time.

I just tried updating and after about half an hour it was finished and it showed the "Update Complete" message on my computer so I unplugged the device and all it shows is a blank, white screen. I waited to see if the hourglass was spinning and it wasn't, so I pulled the battery and then it started up fine.
What went wrong?

Edit: I also kind of miss the old Cingular theme from the previous OS :(
Oh well. I'll get used to it eventually.

Make sure you've followed the instructions in post #1 on this thread, especially making sure you've upgraded your desktop manager software to latest version (which is compatible with Vista) and deleting the vendor.xml file. I believe NOT deleting the vendor.xml as specified is one of the more common reasons "nothing happens".
