Question Weird battery drain experience

Please Login to Remove!

I've got a brand new Verizon 7250. Last night, with about a 90% charge, I set it down for the night. I have it set to automatically shut down at 11 p.m. and wake up at 5:30 a.m.

At 5.30 a.m. nothing happened. I tried to turn it on manually with the power button. Nothing. I removed and reinserted the battery. Nothing.

I plugged in the charger. Nothing. About five minutes later the red light came on. When I again tried to power up with the power button, the screen displayed a warning that said something like BATTERY DRAINED. I didn't see the rest (I was driving to work at this point).

After about 15-20 minutes of charging, the thing powered up. I checked the battery level in the Help screen - it showed 40%.

The BB light program had been automatically disabled. Also, the transceiver turned itself off. I guess the Blackberry circuitry knows when to shut down these features for its own good.

I don't run any instant messaging applications on the Blackberry. It does have BB Weather and BB Today (both of which poll weather at certain intervals). I also have the Newsclip RSS application, but that's not constantly running, either. Also, the previous night experienced no such problems with the device.

Now that it's charged up to 100%, all is well again. Weird, huh?

Any clues?

It just could be a bad battery. Have you tried a different battery?

Default It could be the battery, but...

It's a brand new Blackberry and battery - I got it Saturday. Worked fine prior, and has worked fine since this morning.

Don't get me wrong - It could very well be a bad battery that's tempermental.

I'm also wondering if it's one of those unpublished or undiscovered glitches in the software. With any new device or O.S., there's always a long list of problems or issues.
