Can you sync using bluetooth or do you always have to use the cable? My laptop is bluetooth.

Yes, it can be tricky to set up, though. I've found it's not worth the trouble. It's much slower than the USB method.

Yes, you can sync via BT, it may be more complicated to set up the connection, but it works with the generic windows driver. There are complete instructions in a Sticky Thread at the top of the Bluetooth section of this forum.

IMO, Bluetooth sync is a big waste of time. The USB connection is much more reliable, takes no time to setup and is much much faster. However, that being said, occasionally, the USB ports on the BB have been known to come loose. If you have the BT setup you can backup/sync without the USB. In 2.5 years I've only seen one USB port come loose though.

I just looked for a few minutes and can't find a sticky or instructions on BT sync. I must be staring right at it... LOL... do you have a link?

Much to my surprise, Vista already had the necessary drivers to support this. I simply opened the Bluetooth control panel application, put the phone in paring mode, and "BlackBerry 8830" popped up on my screen. I was synched with outlook via desktop manager less then 90 seconds later.

So it looks like the majority only have headaches or issues/difficulty with XP, not Vista. :D

Congrats MPScan, glad it worked well. I guess that is one thing Vista has done right for BB?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I found that setting up the blackberry desktop manager software that came with the 8830 (verizon) was very simple. Much simpler than previous versions. The setup is very intuitive and actually automatically swithces back and forth between bluetooth and USB. Any changes I do on my BB update to my laptop whenever I get within range... Very slick! as far as speed is concerned, the BT connection sync's almost 600 contacts as well as all of my calendar entries, notes and tasks in less than 30 seconds. The first sync takes longer, but maybe a couple of minutes tops. Well worth the few minutes of initial setup time.
