Default What exactly is the MDS?

Please Login to Remove!

I don't get it...I just ran into a bunch of problems with software that would and wouldn't work on different BlackBerries. Turns out I solved my problem (using the device simulator) by running the MDS server from JDE 4.1. So -- this is likely the issue elsewhere...(same problem).

Would this suggest the network these guys are using doesn't have an MDS? Or does it need to be setup properly on the phone??

I feel so uninformed. Please help.

MDS is mobile data system. It's used with devices on a BES. The BES attached BB can be routed to the internet through the MDS on the BES system.

So, if I'm an individual user and not on a BES does that mean that I'm also not using an MDS?

I'm trying to do an OTA software install, and I get a warning message saying if I'm using an MDS there may be a 5 MB limit. The download installs to the 100% mark, then craps out and never finishes. I haven't got very far with the tech support on the site, but if I can eliminate the MDS as the problem that will get me one step closer.

That's correct.
You only use MDS if you're device is attached to a BES.
