Can I simply charge my North American device by plugging it into the appropriate adapter for the wall outlet when traveling in Europe - or is some sort of voltage converter required?

check the back of the charger if it can handle 100-240V you ok

I am currently in Europe and charging my Pearl with the supplied US charger. My dad too is using his charger to charge his 8700. All you will need is an adapter for the end of the plug and you should be good to go.

I was charging my Pearl in France last week and all was good til lightening struck the castle we were staying in. Fried the charger (and 8 TV's in the building)

...back on topic...yes, usually, just check the label on the charger.

You know i was mention using a surge protector in my post but didnt, thats weird that your charger was fried. I have lost a toothbrush charger to lightning before.

I'm also trying to find out about my camera's (battery) charger. It says 100V-240V 50/60 Hz 4-7A 2W. It's a lithium ion. An adapter ?

I have a red 8100 on at&t ..... if anyone has any info on coverage , or advice, I'd appreciate it. Salut !

If the charger says 100-240v then you are fine in Europe as long as you have an outlet adapter.

Coverage in Europe is better than in the US! Make sure you have an international dialing plan on your account. it's basically permission to roam internationally. If you don't you won't be able to receive calls. Just check with AT&T before you go if you haven't before.

Most electronic goods are now made to adapt to all voltages so that the manufacturer only has to make one model for sale anywhere in the world. you shouldn't have any problems... however for clarity:

Europe is standard 220v 50Hz, some countries including the UK traditionally used 240V but given a 10% tolerance on voltage specifications, that means 220V and 240V can be swapped without any problems. Check the label on your charger to see if they include 220V.

As for adapters, you'll find continental Europe (inc Russia and former USSR states) has a two pin plug with round pins and either a slot in the top or a reversed pin in the middle for an earth. Clever adapter manufacturers make adapters that will suit any continental plug. These are the Type C, E & F described on wiki Domestic AC power plugs and sockets - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However, the UK has a square three pin system (internally fused, impossible to swap live and neutral) that will require a separate adapter, ie Type G

I'm a little slow w/ electricity .... but I have seen the assortment you are refering to . I'll have to come back to this.

We were kind-of wondering about the car charger still .... but obviously , with this forum as an indication, people are finding a way to charge these things all over.

It's like driving into Wisconsin , right ? Actually my gf has stressed more over it than I have .... cause I knew I could count on you guys.

LOL - A simple plug adapter bought in any travel shop will do it! The electricity itself isn't a problem in most cases, check the charger has 220V on the label.

The simply explanation is that the metal pins are different shapes and sizes and you need a little piece of plastic to match them up ... or use paperclips *whistles innocently*

As for the car charger, they are identical all over the world. Of course, you'll need a car though!
