First, as some of you are already aware.. Alltel locks their internal GPS and can only be unlocked by subscribing to TeleNav, which I did over month ago and then cancelled my subscription after getting my own GPS puck and not truly being satisfied with TeleNav's functionality (personal preferences).
Today while messing around with BlackBerry Maps, I had the Internal GPS function set by mistake. I hit Start GPS and to my surprise, it worked even after I had cancelled TeleNav (uninstalled it and even have performed several hard resets since then and even a complete wipe for another reason).
So brings me to my possible find and fix to permanently unlocking the internal gps function in your BB device: 1) Subscribe to TeleNav to unlock internal GPS. 2) Cancel TeleNav without ever being charged for the service. 3) Enjoy!
I'm using an 8703e on Alltel, so results may vary but definitely worth a try for those who have their internal gps locked (Alltel, Verizon..).
TeleNav does not support internal GPS on Verizon Devices. Check their website and you'll see what I mean. They only support bluetooth pucks on Verizon, so in that case it's pretty pointless because everything else that's free works with bluetooth pucks like that anyway. Sucks for us VZW folks.
