Default Pulling e-mail on a Curve

Please Login to Remove!

I'm planning on getting an 8320 when they become available on 9/24 and run it on BIS, since it's for personal use and BES through my ISP costs $23/mo. It will be my first BB, and first smartphone. I played with an 8300 for a few days, and was told by AT&T (the provider) that it pulls e-mail every 20 minutes and that rate can't be changed, nor can I tell it to simply check e-mail right now. Is this true on other services? Is it likely to be true on TMo with the 8320? Thanks.

The email push occurs about every 15 minutes with BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). With yahoo and gmail it is instant, as well as to your @blackberry.net address.

BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service) is instant as well.

So, what they told you was partially true. If you want your POP3 account instant, you can have it forwarded to gmail account and configured so that it is not only instant, but seamless in terms of using gmail.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I was thinking about buying an iPhone but I decided against it because it only checks for mail every 15 minutes (minimum., not counting the yahoo push - which I tested and found very unreliable). I thought all BB service was instant?? Ouch.

Does that work pretty good, the forwarding email?

is that 15 minute rule apply to AT&T only? Becaues with my Rogers, I have 4 different accounts, and if I send an email to all 4 accounts, they arrive at my blackberry almost instantly, all at the same time.

Aside from the afore mentioned accounts, all BIS POP/IMAP services are subject to the 15-20 min wait, regardless of carrier.

Read all of the responses in this thread carefully.
Some e-mail systems have instant push to the BB (GMail). Some get polled by BIS every 15 minutes and then get pushed to the BB (your local ISP).

You can also direct e-mail to the BB itself, which is instant.

So.. Read all the threads carefully. If you use BIS to poll your accounts, it can take up to 15 minutes.

Thanks for your clarification.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand this to mean that any email that goes direct to my blackberry address (user@provider.blackberry.net) even though it is BIS, would be instant?

Correct.
Including any spam addressed to the BB e-mail account.
