A few days ago we upgraded to SP4 and MR1 with only minor hiccups.

Yesterday I remembered that as part of the original installation of 4.1.3 I had copied the RimEsp.dll file to our SQL server but had not done so again after applying SP4 - the upgrade instructions hadn't mentioned it even though I see that it is a newer version of the file.

When I try to copy it I get an error that it is being used by another program. Last evening I stopped BES and tried copying the file again to the SQL server with the same result.

My questions are:
what really is the "database notification system"? and
how can I update the RimEsp.dll file ?

It is "a custom event-based notification system designed to reduce the number of database queries made by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the BlackBerry Configuration Database." ... from Install a server based notification service on a remote SQL server

To update it I believe you'll need to stop the SQL Server service. That said, if the documentation doesn't say to update it; I wouldn't update it.
