Default Updating my Router- which one should I get?

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, my DLlink 614+ router is probably outdated since the latest firmware is three years old. I updated it and still no luck accessing my TMO Curve on Wifi/UMA. It works at Starbucks so I am assuming no need to reset.

Do you think if I get a newer router, for some magical reason, my UMA will connect? I just want a new router that gets the job done. Any advice or recommendation on routers?

Thanks!

I say give a new router a try. You can always return it if it doesn't work any better. From my experience the wifi/UMA seems to work better on certain routers.

I'd look for a router that could load a 3rd party firmware like dd-WRT or OpenWRT so that you can be assured you can enable the WMM features of the 8320's wi-fi connection. WMM will help save battery life on wi-fi and ensure your UMA call gets high priority on the wireless network.

You can see some of the routers that are compatible with dd-WRT at this page:

I personally just bought the Linksys from T-Mobile and couldn't be happier.

How much is the T-Mobile router? Never really looked at that option as I'm more of a hacker and slasher.

right now at Tmobile either the dlink or the linksys are only 49.99 and can also qualify for a 50 mail in if you add the hotspot@home add on for 9.99

that makes those little gems free after rebate

Even at $50, that's hard to go wrong with the linksys model. Even the d-link isn't bad, I'd just bias towards the linksys.

Thanks for the input. So I have narrowed it down between TMO Linksys or D-Link. I currently own an outdated one (614+ where latest firmware release is over 3 years old). Seems like more of you prefer Linksys over D-Link. Why is that?

linksys is currently owned by cisco systems, and i feel their interface is easier and simpler to configure, i have used and configured almost anything under the sun, and i still prefer and always go back to linksys.

I'd agree with the Linksys fans here--had a Linksys at home, got a D-Link for my corporate apartment on the road (it was $10 cheaper), it kept dropping connections (not with a BB, just a laptop or two), got a second Linksys and have had no problems for 4+ months. The D-Link went back to the store. Linksys is definitely "set it and forget it", at least in my case.
