Default 2 questions about upgrading from a Pearl to a Curve

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I'm about to upgrade from a Pearl to a Curve, but have a few questions first.

1) When I upgrade I'll be staying with the same carrier (TMO). Is switching out the SIM card the only thing that I'll need to do in order to get my Curve working (including push email, etc)? Or will I lose all BIS settings and filters, etc?

2) Could I easily switch back and forth between the Pearl and the Curve simply by switching my SIM back and forth? (Actually, the only reason I ask this is that I'm a broke college student, and am worried that if I were to break my Curve that then I would be completely BlackBerry-less, and I want to at least have my still-functioning Pearl as a backup in case my Curve fails.)

Thanks much!

1- also go to your BIS site and look for the link to "change devices", where you will input your new PIN and IMEI. You wil also want to use the Switch Device Wizard in Desktop Manager to move all your contacts, settings, etc., over to the new device.

2. You will need to change the device each time on our BIS site, for mail, etc., to be pushed to the proper device.

Broke college student, eh, buying a new Curve. I guess broke is not broke anymore.

Switching back and forth is very simple, but do use the procedure JSanders describes. Using the Switch Devices Wizard is not necessary but a nice way to keep all your contacts and media duplicated on both devices. The important thing is to log into My T-Mobile and go to the link for "setup Blackberry email". That's where you'll enter the PIN and IMEI numbers of the device you want to use.

You should be able to just restore it from your backup just like anything else like your Contacts or Calendar. All data is encrypted, so it's an all or nothing thing. You cannot merge password entries, you'll erase anything that is there on the new device, but your whole database will be there along with your same master password.
