No.
Nothing is entirely free.

Navigation software requires you to pay for a BlackBerry Data Plan.

Well I think the OP was asking if he could get free GPS not free data. Right? If so, then yes, you can provided you are willing to use your own GPS Bluetooth receiver. The new version of Google Maps will allow you to specify any external paired BT puck.

But you have Sprint...I thought the internal GPS receiver was unlocked on the Sprint 8130 and only us VZW users had to use an external.

If you have a Blackberry Data Plan on your account then you can use the GPS with Google Maps, Blackberry Maps, Live Search for no extra fee.

If you want a voice prompted, turn by turn direction app, then you need to move up to a pay-for app. TeleNav is the best at $9.95/mo.

You'd have to buy the GPS receiver right? It's not free.
You'd still need a BlackBerry Data Plan. Not free.

So will any number of other mapping applications. They still all require a BlackBerry Data Plan. That's not free either.

Wow Penguin, nitpicking on semantics. Under that same logic any "free" app is essentially not free because you had to buy the device to run it on and the electricity to power it, etc. etc.

He was asking if there are free map applications that have GPS capabilities. The answer is yes.

You have no idea what they were asking. You're assuming, just like I am.
Either of us can be right, and neither of us can be right. Who knows?
My experience here has shown me that most newcomers who post here asking for "free" GPS are really concerned with skirting the system and using their device without paying the carrier for a BlackBerry Data Plan.

You're free to disagree with me all you want. I won't take it personally.

AmAze GPS provides free turn-by-turn, on-screen and voice. I've used it on my Pearl and it works well in "turn mode" (all you see is the current turn on-screen), not so well in map mode (seeing your route on the map).

It worked quite well w/my external BT GPS...it is a little slow at recalculating routes, but hey, it is free.

And from viewing previous posts from the OP I'd say that's the case here.

If you have a Blackberry Data plan then you can use Google maps, Blackberry Maps, Microsoft Live Search...there are many.

If you don't have a BB data plan, there are none.

Someone just posted in the GPS forum about free maps, but I can't remember if there was a DM load option.

No you can't. The maps are not loaded onto the phone, they're acquired from your cellular provider's data service. Much different than a laptop where the maps are internal.
