Default 8310 won't charge, nor connect to usb ...

Please Login to Remove!

Hey,

I just got my 8310 and everytime I connect it to my pc it connects, windows says usb device not recognized, then it disconnects (you hear the windows usb device disconnect sound) and a few seconds later it tries to connect unsecessfully again. if I plug in the charger, the phone seems to charge for a second or two (green led blinks once, then another time, but almost seems cut off during the second blink) and then nothing.

guess the device is broken and there's nothing I can do about it, right?

Have you tried it by installing the drivers on another computer and charging it via that one.

Also, I'd replace the battery before declaring it dead.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

If you just got device perhaps taking it back is in order! As long as it is within return period

unfortunately I bought it used, and the vendor probably doesn't have the invoice anymore ... is there anything else I can do? is there a way to put the device in flash mode or something? (like some other cell phones, which you can flash even if they have no firmware installed)

Hey,
Where did you get this device?

Have you installed the Desktop software?

Tried it on another computer?

Hey, where are you?

reboot the BB by pulling the battery and replacing; reboot the PC.

Open Desktop Manager on your PC desktop. Connect the BB via USB again, and LEAVE it connected for a while to see if it stays connected. you can see in DM the actions "working"... "connected", and your PIN number.

did so, I forgot to mention I know my way around computers and cell phones, I was just wondering if there was a way to put the phone in flash mode or something, where you can actually upload a firmware if the original firmware is faulty.

or could it actually be the battery, f.e. that if it gets connected to the usb the battery would report it's already full or just doesn't want to be charged and therefore refuse the connection or something?

actually if I connect it and leave it connected it simply connects and disconnects infinitely ... and windows reports usb device not recognized everytime ...

How about trying the most overlooked part of the equation... have you tried a different USB cable and a different power adapter? It might very well not be the device that's broken or the computer causing the problem it could just be the cable that's bad.

If it isn't the cable how about asking the girl to bring the BB back to where she bought it to get it exchanged? Do they come with a 1 yr warranty there like they do here?

already tried that, and it's probably being overlooked because chances that the charger and the usb cable are both bad are very slim ;)

anyway, yes they do come with a one year warranty, but I guess she got it as a gift and therefore has no invoice ... does anyone know anything else I can do? RTM or something?

The problem then has to be hardware and the USB/motherboard within the phone itself. I can't see how reloading the OS would help in this case and since you can't connect to a computer to even attempt this... it has to be hardware.

I didn't know if your wall charger had a detachable usb cable and were using the same cable.

Try going into a Vodaphone store and see what they will do for you. The phone is registered in your name on your account... maybe they will just do a swap for you or at least help you get it working.
