sorry for the double post, but I just saw this mis-information and thought I should correct you here.

Evolution-Data Optimized - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am on Rev. 0 and I constantly download at 1200 - 1800kbps. Read the information that I linked to. Rev. 0 bursts at 2.4Mb/s....

The major difference between 0 and A is the upload increase with Rev. A, and the latency decrease with Rev. A....

F34R... you are absolutely correct.. but vzwire has indicated upload speeds of over 500kbps... that indicates RevA doesn't it? I'm not sure about the latency numbers.

I'm sure if he's getting 512 UP, then that is at least Rev. A... I was just concerned about the Rev. 0 information he posted, and corrected that.

Also, if he's on Windows XP, then there is a great deal more speed he could be getting if he hasn't already tweaked the OS for that connection.

vzwire,

What OS are you on ? If XP, have you tweaked it yet ?

good point f34r... about the tweaking of XP... but I'm still not quite sure whether you can get to 500 kbps on Rev0... even tweaked.. but that's really a guess on my part. I'm just surprised that no one seems to have a definitive answer to the support of RevA on a tethered BB... maybe the better question to ask is ... what kind of performance numbers can i expect from a tethered BB.... the best so far seems to be 1.4 Mbps down, 520 kbps up. Anybody doing this (or better.. or worse).

right.. I'd be hard pressed to say his numbers AREN'T Rev. A.... I'd still like to see a tweaked receive window if it isn't already, and see where his speeds go from there.

So, probably the best answer to this thread topic would be that it IS indeed Rev A compat while tethering (BB 8130).

well.... f34r... i hope so... i guess the only way to know at this point is to get to an area of known coverage.. get next to someone with an aircard, and compare. Not sure when that can happen, but I'm going to try. Maybe I can report my results down the road a bit... not sure whether anyone really cares... but it might be useful info.

the only way he'd be getting 512kb/s upload is if the upload was so compressed that he was getting false readings. If testmy.net, speakeasy.net/speedtest, and speedtest.net, are all reporting similar results... it's safe to say he's getting true Rev A speeds.

vzwire... not too sure about you're assessment signal level... I believe (from my very old engineering days) that 3db is a doubling (or halving) of signal level. So having a signal level of -87db would be significantly better than -90db... right now, my signal happens to be -94db... fluctuating as normal. I've seen -120db which is really bad.

vzwire,
I don't know where you get your information from, but that's absolutely wrong.

THIS TWEAK ONLY WORKS WITH WINDOWS XP

Download the attached app...

make sure you are connected with your bb before running it.

Run the app. Change the first number at the top: Tcp receive window to 65535

then click save, then exit. Restart your computer. test your connection at the following sites

Speakeasy - Speed Test
testmy.net - speed test and broadband tools
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

then report back...

it would be also beneficial to do the tests BEFORE downloading this app, so we can compare the performance gain.

ok... after the tweak... 500 kpbs down, 110 kbps up... pretty much the same as before. Signal level during the test of -90db. (That's in the Cleveland area where there is or isn't revA ?????) Once again, when I evaluated the aircard, RevA clearly showed up in the VZAcess Manager screen. It is NOT there now. So I interpret this as either one of two things...

1) Cleveland is not yet set to revA (actually been told that by a VZ rep... not sure of validity)
2) or.. tethered 8130 is not revA compatable

?????????????????????????????????????????

you should definitely be getting better speeds than that, even w/o the tweak, and on Rev. 0. Your signal is very limiting as well. The aircard usually shows -80dBm when in my laptop, to achieve good speeds.

Your PRL could be wrong
Your signal is limiting your speeds
rev a isn't available on the tower you're pulling from

I would have to say rev a is possible on the 8130 IF vzwire is reporting correct results with his. There isn't any way to achieve 512kb/s upload on Rev. 0

I'd like to see a test from one of those places I listed so that we can see exactly what we're talking about.

-80db is significantly better than my -90 to -95 db levels.

good info... thanks... and yes, i did update my PRL (did a *228). I can only assume that signal level is marginal and/or I'm not in a revA area. I also can only hope that the 8130 truly is revA compatable. I guess I'll only find this out when I get back to Myrtle Beach.
