Folks,

My wife is about to enter a VERY busy time and I was talking with her last night about a PDA. To my surprise, she said she really liked my BB keyboard and didn't want to use a stylus at all. It got me to thinking, while the BB is not the greatest PDA only device, it is certainly usable. She really doesn't want to have a data plan, but she will sync email as well. If I have to, I will just buy her one straight up but was wondering if anybody knew where to get one cheap without a plan. heck, I don't think she even has to have color, so a pre - 7290 model would be just fine, assuming it wasn't 5 yrs old. Anybody got any help?

If she wants to do any type of e-mail on the BlackBerry, she'll need a Blackberry Data Plan.
There's tons of pre-owned BlackBerry handhelds on eBay.

She won't need the data plan if she syncs the BB and then when she is out wants to reply to them or create new ones that only get sent once she syncs.

We looked on e-bay.

Email doesn't sync. It only goes wirelessly.

Ok then, will the device function as a PDA without a SIM card? No e-mail, but contacts, calendar, tasks, etc?

Gonzo,

You might have her check out the Palm Tungston. It has a nice large screen, color display, and has WiFy - so she can get her email if she is in a location that has it. You should be able to get an older model at a reasonable price on e-bay.
And it has a full keyboard as well as the ability to use a stylus.
