Default assign "mute" ringer to unknown calls?

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently switched from a Treo 650 to the BB 8130 on the Sprint network. Is there a way to assign a muted/no ringtone for unkown callers or incoming calls from numbers not in my address book? I tried using the notification and exception feature to no avail and there doesn't seem to be a muted/ no ringtone option under ringers. Any suggestions???

Wow. Do you really want that, even if it could be done? What if someone you do know calls on a different number in an emergency?

Exclamation

The feature just assigns a silent ringer to the calls, but it will still appear as a missed call. I've used this feature since '05 and haven't had any problems. This is helpful as a way to filter out unwanted calls.

Shall I assume that this feature isn't available?

This feature isn't available as far as I know.... But don't trust me. Look through the list of aftermarket software at blackberry faq.com. Maybe there is something third-party. And hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

you could turn you phone to do not disturb and put everyone in your phone book as an exception and when you get a call form someone not in your phone book it will not ring on your end but it will ring only once for them and it also says you have a missed call. i also use bbalerts and it will give you a tone after a min to let you know you missed a call. i use it all the time and i love it. people think you phone is off when they call you that are not in your phone book but you get the number they called from.

Just a thought... you should be able to record an MP3 that is basically quiet.. store it in your phone and select it as the ringtone for your pesty caller. What do you think??

neat trick but without knowing the number (he said it is "unknown caller") there is no way to assign any ringtone to it.

true... missed part of unknown caller... but I think I will silence a few of my less than desireable callers

Reminds me of a guy who found a free service for custom answering options depending on how you set it (different from RTs). So one caller would hear song x when they call you, another could hear something you recorded, etc. And one option is that they hear the phone ring twice and it just hangs up (for that ex-gf/bf that won't give up!). You had to reroute your voicemail through this app as I recall, and you could switch back to your regular carrier's vm.
