Hey, I happen to notice that the performance on all cdma based blackberrys (from 7250 to 8703 to 8830 to pearl) is much slower than gsm based blackberrys. Also, I notice that current cdma based blackberrys (8703, 8830, and pearl 8130) carry the same qualcomm chipset found in 7250. Will they get a faster processor for new cdma curve coming in few weeks? Thansk in advance.

CDMA devices use EVDO, which is faster than GSM/GRPS devices

What performance are you referring to?

no concrete information but the only blackberry that is set to have a new processor is the 9000 series. what performance issues are you noticing? they do generally have a much lower battery life but that is the nature of CDMA. If you keep same free space on either, for instance 8120 vs 8130, i notice no difference in performance.

PS Hi Jules!

How do I know cdam based blackberrys run slower than gsm based blackberry?

1. Cdma based blackberrys take long time to boot up compared to gsm based blackberry after taking out battery or reload OS.

2. Ran jbenchmark (http://wap.jbenchmark.com). According to jbencmark results, GSM based blackberry is 2x faster than cdma based blackberry.

3. Cdma blackberrys is faster on 1xev but however the speed of web rendering on cdma based blackberry is signicficantly slower than gsm based blackberrys when using non- mobile or wap based sites.

i have the complete opposite experience in web browsing. as a matter of fact, EVDO is two+ times faster than EDGE at downloading the pages. It really depends on the settings as well. If you have EVDO loading background images and not EDGE or one with javascript and one without your results will be skewed. Apples to Apples CDMA BBs are much faster on the web. All blackberrys take a very long time to boot up, my 8130 actually boots significantly faster than my 83xx series GSM devices. As to jbenchmark i have never used that site and i would have to take a serious look to see how it benchmarks the device before i could comment

The 8130 Pearl's received a slight upgrade from the MSM6500 (used in previous CDMA models) to the MSM6550. My understanding is the 6550 is better suited for multimedia related processing.
