Hey ya'll,

Well im sure this has been discussed on this forum a couple of times except i cant seem to find any info...

I currently have a 8310. And im debating about replacing it with 8800. I don't know if im going to enjoy it as much as 8310 and i need your help in getting pros and cons...

So far i understand that 8800 is tougher built and the battery lasts longer. I find the keyboard buttons are larger however people say that 8310 is easier to type..is it true?

I really need your help on this...

Thank You

I have the 8830. You will be losing out on some functionality such as the camera. I think they keypad of the curve is easier to type with. The keys are spaced out on the 83xx models unlike the 88xx models.

I wouldn't say a big con. It is basically preference. Go to the store and feel it out for a little bit and see how you like it. Some may actually like the 8800 keyboard better. That is just my opinion on the device. If you are not worried so much about the camera. they pretty much function the same.

Personally, I think the 8320 is the best device available in the market right now.

I would say the 8310 is #2 (only because WiFi is built in to the 8320) ... and if I want GPS, I can get a puck (which I have)

The Curve keyboard is the best one available IMO and I hate SureType. I'm not a fan of the 8800 series keyboards, but they beat the 8100 series for me.

8800 versus 8310; I pick 8310 and get either an extended battery or another battery.

Personally like the size of the 8100 althoguh I think the 8300 series is thinner.

Yep the 83XX defo has the most superior keyboard by far!

thanks for ur input hdawg. So why would people buy the 8800 or 8820? i dont get it.
At first, i chose the 8310 cause of its size. But when i look at the 8800 i feel like there is something in my hands. I just dont want to make my decision based on the esthetic look...

I think the 88xx series was deisgned more for corporate users that wanted something to get hold of!!

The 83xx is just more practical!

I would purchase an 8800 series device if my carrier did not have an 8300 series device (such as Sprint and Verizon).

Many business choose to go with the 8800 series as it guarantees there will be no camera in the device; eliminating a potential security concern for those that can't have cameras. Some of the 8800 series allow for CDMA & GPRS networks in the same device; a big plus

In the end, I wanted:

1) The best coverage I could get (getting an 8320 with WiFi allowed me to have perfect coverage in my office and at home)
2) Have a camera + sd card (check and check)
3) Get something new (so it was 8100, 8300, or 8800 for me)
4) Get something with a full qwerty keyboard (8300 or 8800)
5) get something small (8300)

^^^ that was my process. I previously had an 8703e with Verizon; going from CDMA to GPRS in the US sucks as CDMA networks are so much faster ... but from a functionality / feature standpoint; I'm happy.

I doubt that's the case. You'll find opinions all over the place regarding durability and they're all unsubstantiated. You can't assess a device's durability merely by holding it in your hand. Look at all the early posts on the 8700 and you'll find countless posts complaining about how flimsy the device felt. Now everyone touts how durable it is.

I've used both the 8800 and the 8310 and I can't say (yet another unsubstantiated opinion) that either one gives me the impression that it's more durable than the other -- nor that the battery on one would last longer than the other. An exception might be if you used the flash on the 8310 a lot.

As for the keyboard -- it's a matter of preference as has already been said. Try them both out in the store. I've never had problems typing on the 8800 but a lot of people don't like its keyboard.

In any case, it all boils down to picking the model with the features that you need/want and the keyboard that you can live with.

EZRunner, do u use the 8100 when u go out? Does the 8800 become a pain when u go out at night?

Since i dont care about the camera on my 8310, its really boiling down on the size and keyboard.

I use them simultaneously!

8100 is actually work and 8800 is personal but both are unlocked so I can change them around.

8800 is no problem for me when I go out!

Only time will tell. I never regret 83xx versus 88xx.

Good luck!!!

Default If I'm not mistaken...

...the 88xx series offers international calling ability, whereas the 83xx series does not.

Not sure if this helps at all.
