Default Delay in receiving email on 8820 through gmail

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all-

I am really confused.
I live in an area with great reception but there is always a lag between when an email lands on my gmail account and when it lands on my BB.
In fact, I will usually find it before on the internet gmail than on my BB.
The delay can usually be up to 15 minutes.

Ive done trouble shooting and the like with the folks at ATT but to no avail.
Any comments or thoughts on how to make my BB and gmail become a "push" like system would be greatly appreciated.

BIS works by polling an account every 15 minutes. If it finds email it will check again in 3 minutes. If it finds something again it will continue in 3 minutes intervals. If it finds nothing it reverts to 15 minutes. Now with this said some folks were getting almost instant email from Yahoo and Gmail. I have seen a few posts complaining about it not being instant following the RIM maintenance this weekend.

Was it instant before?

My only suggestions are to resend service books and do a battery pull. You can try deleting and adding the account again through BIS to see if that helps. Otherwise, just pick a busy thread on the topic and watch it for suggestions and solutions.

Good Luck!

Another thing to try is perhaps forwarding the Gmail account to your [email address] account and you might get them faster.

Gmail was always instant for me on BIS. However, if you have a gmail account from Google Apps for your domain, it is the 15 minute interval as described above.

I have been noticing the delays since past day or so as well, it was almost instant before. Someone said maintenance. Can you elaborate on that a little more or please give me a link so I can read about what was done. They might have just fixed it properly now after all this time as far as 15 minute interval in polling following 3 minute intervals if an email is found.

Ah! yes, I do have my own domain setup for Google Apps. That explains a lot as I have both my personal domain account and @gmail.com account setup!

When you setup your gmail acct on your blackberry did you leave everything as default for the POP account, or have you enabled IMAP and have your blackberry use IMAP to access that account.

When gmail started offering IMAP access to their accounts I switched my blackberry over to use the IMAP servers, and I started getting a serious delay, I promptly switched it back to POP access, and I get my gmail messages almost instantanious.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I have been dealing with intermittent delays over the past 48 hrs. Maybe its a Google server issue

I have just the opposite experience. I have BIS and use it only with my Google Apps Domain mail hosting. The mail almost always comes through within 10 seconds of it being sent. I'm on an 8830 with Sprint. Tnis is all a mystery to me

You mind sharing your settings? Are you using IMAP or POP. On either one, I have never been able to get my google domain to hit my BB instantly. The only way I can get it to show up instantly is to forward it to my blackberry email address: name@sprint.blackberry.net

Wirelessly posted (NakedBerry)

I've been experiencing a delay for the past two days too. It used to be instant. I'm also getting duplicate messages.
