Default Bing - Free Multiclient Instant Messenger

Please Login to Remove!

We've just started a trial for our new multiclient IM software bing. Download is (and will stay) for free.

UI is optimized for Java phones and not for blackberry, but after getting used to it, it's quite comfortable and quick. Connects to ICQ/MSN/AIM as well as it's own network. GPRS/UMTS traffic consumption is very low. 1 sent Msg uses just ~0,25kb. (Settings -> System Info shows consumed traffic.)

3 important remarks for installation:

- Correct APN for tcp connections has to be entered on blackberry under settings -> advanced settings -> tcp

- App has to be downloaded with the Blackberry Browser from http://wap.bing.im . (PC download and transfer via usb cable does not work)

- You can type in mobile numbers (eg. on setup screen) in international format without "+" too ("+" is not supported by blackberry input form).

Useful hints:

- By pressing the red hangup button you can put the app in the background.

- Keyboard Shortcuts: 0 ... toggles hide offline/online, # ... sound on/off, * ... lock keyboard

Give it a try and let me know what you think of it!

I downloaded the program but:

~Every time I try to register one of my AIM accounts it tells me My ICQ Data Registration was denied because the user name was not valid for this service.
~The website is down for any support.
~The only way to send a message seems to be by using the track wheel.
~New messages seem to have to be sent from a blank screen
~Only supports ICQ / MSN/ AIM.

I guess you get what you pay for. I'll stick with JT!!

The program is not bad. Though, I rather hit the return key then click the track wheel each time to send.

@Missing Screenshots & Website: It's because it's early days. The website is not ready yet, but will be up and running in ~2 weeks.

@Send with enter: Good point. Will be added in the next version.

@AIM: Will be fixed today and should work in ~3-4h.

I am willing to try it and am downloading now. Atleast there is no bait and switch going on to attract users. It says free and says will always be free, nice.

So far so good with Bing using AIM. I did get a java error yesterday but I logged right back in. I like the graphics and GUI but there are not many options.

For a free AIM IM though its not bad and way better than OZ or Ramble. If it had Yahoo support besides MSN, I might use it more.

Default Great App so far

I like it so far, with JiveTalk being non beta now, and being as cheap as I am, this and Gtalk will be my alternative to JiveTalk for my AIM/MSN/Google needs.

One thing I like to point out is that when you have Bing minimized, any new messages pops Bing back up. Would like an option to turn off the feature and keep Bing in the background. Other than that, keep up the good work!

not really, it's a multiprotocol instant messenger. sms is only used for sending invitation to your friends.

ok, so i tried bing for a few weeks and it was actually pretty good. all of the sudden i would sign on and have all these random people added to my buddy list. It then started freezing up forcing me to do a few battery pulls. i ended up deleting it because it got soo bad. ehhh it was worth the try i guess . . . back to OZ

Ok firstly, very nice, i like the look
BUG:
-MENU > New Group Chat when over an AIM Icon (coincidence or none) freezes bing.
-when going from conv, to menu, u start ALL the way at the bottom of the menu (with my 200+ contacts, its not fun scrolling all the way up)

What you should add:
-group sort (more than just AIM) (like the groups that come with the account)
-when i type, give me a little text box at the bottom, or even (cooler) make typing text on the window (without losing the conversation.
-Back button moves to the list, not the popup, use the popup with menu.
-make a page skip, left or right, skips page down or up
-on hover (or on view chat window) if the user is away or idle, show message.
-custom noises
-would be awesome to set your own profile info.
-also log off individual accounts.

NOTE:
-i do like the scrolly thing at the bottom win in text enter mode, but i would like either a seperate box, or edit directly on the window (without losing the conversation)
-i really do like this, just some simple things that can really help the product will make it amazing! i really do love this product already!
