Cool Use of the MicroSD card

Please Login to Remove!

First of all, it's great to be back to Blackberry forums. I've been lost and wandering around the Treo world for the last couple of years.

On to the inquiry on hand. Is it possible to use the extra storage space available on the Media card for things other than multimedia files. Like for example applications, browser cache etc. My device storage space is down to at least 1mb. I got 4GB on the SD card that I would like to take advantage of

Thanks and Aloha!

Welcome back!

You can't load applications to your Media Card, or browser cache, or messages, mail or such.

If you are down to 1mb, you need to BADLY read these two linked threads...

Default Additional question

Mr JSanders,

Thank you for the response and the reference links. I'm really disappointed that users cannot take advantage of the card storage space (for example, in a Treo, you can install and launch apps from the SD card).

Other than multimedia files, can you store anything else, or backup the entire BB device memory into a card?

Mahalo

ok, basically you can put anything you want on the Media Card... I even carry an extra copy of my current OS (installer file) on the SD card. But not everything will run from the Media Card, apps won't. You cannot backup your device to the Media Card--HOWEVER, you could back up to your PC and then move your backup IPD file to the Media Card as a safety measure BUT you cannot restore from that file on the Media Card, you would have to move it back to a PC where Desktop Manager is loaded.

The docs that I have do not specify the max size microSD card that will work in the 8820...does anyone know the official #?

Thanks,
R

Depending on the OS version, you can put as much as 8gig.
v4.2 is 4gig max
v4.3 is 8gig max

Aloha!
