Default Battery Pull Question

Please Login to Remove!

I notice that sometimes your suppose to do a battery pull for various reasons.
Question is: Do you do the battery pull while the BB is powered on or powered off? Or is there situation for both? I've been powering off every time.

I read everything and found nothing on doing a battery pull when powered off?

When I have done a battery pull a few times powered off, such as when my internet quit working using the BB as modem, that solved my problem.

Jack55, what are you talking about? Read the link I gave you above...

No, let me quote it here:
Quote:
Performing a HARD reset on the BlackBerry device

The first step in troubleshooting a network, software or hardware error is often to perform a hard reset. With Javaź based devices, this is accomplished by removing the battery. A hard reset on a C++ based device is accomplished by pressing the Reset button.

But you are correct, that doesn't actually mention the words, "while powered on".

But I know I have typed "while powered on" on this forum at least 3,000 times.

I know, but my question is what happens when you do it " while Powered Off"?
What is the difference?

You might want to re-read his message.

He's indicated that he's had some success doing a battery pull with the power off (not on), and is curious as to why there's no mention of doing a power off battery pull.

Personally I don't know what pulling the battery with the unit turned off accomplishes, but that's the gist of his comment. He's not commenting that he can find no reference to doing a "power on" battery pull.

Nothing. It's as if you never pulled it out.

Not true... because I've done it several times and it has solved the problems at the time. When I put the battery back in after powering off and pulling the battery, then you can see the phone doing a 'reboot'.

Good. It is recommended to do so while the device is powered on.

YMMV. Not a real big deal. If it works for you, do it your way. If you ever need it otherwise, leave it powered on.

the reason you see it doing a reboot is because when you reinsert the battery it auto powers on.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't arguing with you guys. I want to do this right and why I'm asking these question. So from now on I will do the battery pull when it is powered on.
