Default Unite Email Polling Interval

Please Login to Remove!

Since BIS polls a mailbox every 15 minutes and less if it actually finds mail, anyone who successfully installed unite know if it polls a mailbox every 15 minutes or is that configurable by the admin.

Thanks!

Didn't see any way of configuring it, nor have I looked at the time. If I get a chance I will see if I can attach my server to a mail box that I don't check any other way so the logs will show only Unite polling, and report.

It's not as instant as BES, but it's much quicker than BIS. I'd say <90 sec delay for receiving email, none for sending.

I'm still collecting data, but I think if it can stay logged it it does. If my ever diminishing memory serves IMAP has a protocol to detect when new mail arrives. It does seem to be very quick.

Thanks for all the responses. I've seen the pros and cons of installing unite and just wanted to see if I could get my mail faster by using it. I'm using IMAP but still have a lag on some of the mailboxes.

Well logwatch on my IMAP server machine says Unite only logged off twice since 11 AM yesterday when I set up the mail account. Some servers may not support continuous connection. From the log extract you can see there was a gap of 5 minutes when it wasn't logged in. I restarted the IMAP server (severing the connection) to see how long it takes to re-connect. As you can see it didn't take very long:

Code:
May 22 11:11:16 vps imapd-ssl: LOGIN
May 22 11:15:19 vps imapd-ssl: LOGIN
May 22 11:31:42 vps imapd-ssl: LOGOUT
May 22 13:41:16 vps imapd-ssl: LOGOUT
May 22 13:46:12 vps imapd-ssl: LOGIN
May 23 08:07:02 vps imapd-ssl: NOTICE: Disconnected during shutdown by signal
May 23 08:08:11 vps imapd-ssl: LOGIN

dacphilly, I'm thinking about doing exactly what you're doing; that is, using Unite to poll for IMAP (I'm using Gmail IMAP) faster than BIS.
Can I get an update as to whether or not this worked out for you?

This actually works well for me. I do get my mail instantly and browsing is just as fast as the BIS browser.
