I'm mobile so I can't see your model, but only the 8310 has GPS, at options > advanced > gps.

Sorry, my profile was out of date. I actually have a 8310, now updated.

I can use other map software and the GPS works fine. And the BB gives me my co-ordinates, no problem.

But In google maps, it finds my current location using the mobile operators triangulation or something, but not GPS.

On my HTC TTYN II, Google maps has the option to "USE GPS", but no such option in the Blackberry version of google maps.

Thanks for confirming this. I thought it may be a permissions problem, but I'll wait for an update from Google,

Cheers,

My GMaps takes about ten minutes to update the gps location initially, but it works. Have you tried sending it to the background and then checking back and hitting 0? This seems to work for me.
I think (but it may be in my head) that when I go to options and tell it to update the gps it starts working faster. Pure speculation on the options idea.

I was actually going to ask if anyone knew what the deal was with this delay problem. Correct thread or no?

I just bought an 8310 with ATT. I just downloaded the google maps beta ( with location ). It gives me the 1700 meter location. I checked the gps option and I see it, but do I have to do anything to actually turn the gps on ? Or should it work whenever I start a map application on its own ?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how do I know if the GPS is working.

Edit:
The refresh worked when I moved away from my building,,,,google maps etc works fine now,,,,

Thanks much
Oz

tried leaving GM open for over 10 minutes with no luck. even tried leaving sprint navi on and then opening GM, but had no success.

it's definetely something with the cdma's, or at least with my sprint 8330.

triangulation works fine. and the 1700 meters sounds pretty good compared to nothing. but once you get your location within 3 meters, going to 1700 meters seems like days away.

the triangulation had me 27 miles away from my actual location one time.

There's nothing to enable. It will use the GPS receiver if available.

You don't have the 4.5 beta on your 8310, do you?
