A little tip for people on 4.5:

If you added Documents to Go, but don't need Slideshows to Go, you can delete it by putting all the Slideshows to Go .cod files in the Removed Modules folder.

Put all the modules back and run Apploader while the hourglass is spinning. You should be able to add all the files back. See what happens then.

I have to admit, I was very hesitant to do this. I was very concerned about messing up my unit by doing any number of things wrong: downloading the wrong OS, leaving " or a > in the wrong place when editing the .alx files, etc. But, because I like a lot of 3rd party apps, my free memory was always hoving just over 10meg and I knew sooner or later I would have to bite the bullet and try to maximize my memory.

Well, today I did it. I downloaded DM, backed up my handheld and 3rd party apps, downloaded the OS, and went through the above instructions to a "T." I finally got rid of the files I did not want, including the multiple languages that I can neither type nor speak. I torched the preloaded wallpapers, and all the themes I did not want.

I now have over 20M of free memory, and that's with BBAlarm, BBSmart, JiveTalk, LiveSearch, BBWeather and a couple other apps. I just wanted to say thanks to John Clark. You made this easy even for a noob.

Default Getting the TMo OS

Thanks for this very detailed information - it worked exactly as described.

However.....I downloaded the handheld OS from the TMo website (for the 8700g). I am using an unlocked 8700c from Cingular. When doing the upgrade, I did not have the Tmo themes or the fav 5 cods in my Java folder. I have the others - Verizon, Sprint, Vodafone, etc. but not TMo. What's going on? All the other themes are working well - my phone works, etc. but I cannot see or find any _themes_100.cod or myfaves.cod.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't believe the myfavs cod will be in any folder for any 8700 device OS. Its not a myfav capable device. Although Wingrider78 figured out how to use the myfav service on his 8700g, he does not have the myfav theme.

Talking So Far So Good...

So far so good... It's definitely cleared up my application screen. I was a little scared deleting things that i had no idea what they went to... but i'm glad i trusted my intuition. I just hope this clears up my missing call log. Any ideas what to do if this doesn't work?

How about the TMo theme? Why is it missing from the OS downloaded from the TMo site?

As long as you follow JC's instructions in Post #1, there is no need to be scared deleting things, the post takes you step by step through each item, what it does and the options.
