I'll also report no problems. I have a D-Link DIR-655 running WPA2-AES and used the WPS/PIN feature to connect them.

If you have enabled MAC Address filtering on your router, don't forget to add the BBs WiFi MAC to the table.

Working fine on a stock WRT54G.

So far what they've told me that I need to disable wifi and then re-enable it twice in a row, and that I need to have ports 4500 and 500 open (UDP for both) in order to connect and make calls over wifi. We'll see if it works. The tier-2 person I'm talking to can't get her curve to connect either, so hopefully its a problem with their UMA stuff and they just have to flick a switch on their end.
IK have the same setup and mine connected no problem. I've done nothing special, router is Netgear FSV318, access point is WG602. WPA-PSK set.

btw, for me... Personal Linksys WRT54G v2.. using alternate firmware... HyperWRT 2.1b1 +tofu13c

8320's Mac address added to the filtering tab in the router (since I have it set up to only allow certain addresses)

and it works fine

I have no problem connecting to the router, but the UMA has been spotty and inconsistent for me so far.

Most people are doing fine. I used to be having trouble, and now I'm not. Check your TCP Settings in Options, and make sure you have wap.voicestream.com as your APN (if you're a T-Mo customer).

It is not necessary to forward ports. It is probably beneficial (but not necessary) to apply QoS. If your router understands WMM, have it prioritize that. Mine doesn't (using dd-wrt on a $60 buffalo router) so I prioritize UMA traffic by my BB's MAC address.

Thumbs up

No trouble connecting to my belkin dsl/cable 2.4ghz 802.11g wireless router, Connected on 1st try with UMA locked in at all times once I am at home.

Router set up with 128bit encryption WEP and hidden MAC address. Only needed to key in password a few times to get it to take but 8320 works beautifully. Have noticed UMA locked in at drive thru window at Starbucks also. Changed my connection settings to give wi-fi priority so once it detects a wi-fi network, it automatically hands off and shows UMA

I am on Mailstreet BES and did not have to backup/restore anything. Just plugged into my laptop and a new encryption key was created and everything sync'ed wirelessly. Stepping up to the curve from 8810.

By the way UMA rocks since data and voice work at the same time and data speed is fast . Next is to activate TMo H&H for unlimited calling.

I think the back-up/restore procedure if your curve is not on a BES changes some settings on the new curve that messes up wi-fi.

You should probably also set WMM since that is a different form of QoS. Most QoS will prioritize the packets moving through the router, but WMM changes the way it talks wirelessly to the clients to benefit the UMA phones. There is an article on enabling WMM on dd-wrt based routers over on The linksysinfo forums.

Sweet, thanks for the link. Site appears down, will check it later.

ETA: Here's a more authoritative source on dd-wrt and WWM. Apparently it's not just about prioritizing packets but playing nice with the phone so it uses less battery.

Offtopic: dd-wrt iz awesom!!!1

I had so much trouble I cancelled the UMA...
I started out by setting up my new phone w/ switch device wizard instead of backup/restore because I read this forum (thanks guys), so I tried to use it? nothing, but it said that the UMA was on when I went into the wifi settings...
then I did a wipe and started "fresh", the UMA showed up for about 6 minutes then went right back out again. so now, along with not having all my beloved emails/messages, I didn't have the UMA working. I got frustrated and tried again, same thing. So I give up, I'll just be a gump and pay for my minutes.

Have you checked your APN? (Options -> Advanced -> TCP)

I have the same issue and it's set for WPA2 PSK, mixed 802.11a/g/draft N. Seems to be only my Buffalo router since it works on the Airport Extreme N of my neighbor. I tried both 8320 I have and the same thing happened.
