hmm, I've issues installing modem on my Win XP Pro SP2. Device is not detected as a PnP device. On the other hand, I have RIM Virtual Serial Port device installed in COM ports (COM11). However, any attempt to use this COM port as a modem with standard driver (Windows driver) result in successfull installation of modem but unsuccessfull diagnostic query (device doesn't work properly). Any attempt to use a modem driver that came with Desktop Manager 4.0.0.30 result in following message during installation: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". The specified location in this case is C:\Program Files\ Common Files\ Research In Motion\Modem Drivers\rimserial.sys

Any suggestions?

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Modem Drivers
- rimserial.cat
- RimSerial.inf
- RimSerial.sys

These are the correct drivers for the IP modem. The modem is listed as a Standard Modem (mine is on COM4). This should not be something you have to do manually - just connecting your handheld should 'install' it and opening BDM4.0 allows you the interfacing to use it. If you do not see the modem listed above (or if you do, even), disconnect your handheld, remove the modem from device manager, reconnect your handheld and see if the modem is reinstalled in device manager.

I have the files in place. The problem is Device Manager doesn't detect RIM as modem (and obiously does nothing with these files).

I had this problem before when I was using BDM 3.6.x. The problem gone away when I upgraded to BDM 3.8.x (but then I'd an issue with connectivity -- I was able to connect but I wasn't about to do anything after).

I'll try to reinstall BDM. Maybe this will resolve the issue.

reinstall didn't change anything. however, I got it working with Windows driver for 33600 bps modem. The speed is a bit horrible (I probably got spoiled by DSLs and T3s at the office ), but it works.

Right, so it's still not on the Rogers website. I wonder if that link is even official.. what do they use that page for anyway? I figure it was for carriers that don't want to support release of handheld software such as telus/fido/etc.

That link is RIM's Blackberry site so it's "official" whatever that means. Rogers softare generally appears here prior to being posted on www.rogers.com. I don't know why. Phone Ted Rogers and ask him

This is the link to watch for an official Rogers software upgrade (and 4.0 is not there yet).

WARNING: Rogers 4.0 Beta download could be junk.
I've tried three times now and got Error 507 every time.

I'm going back to my HK4.0
