Default lost connection to EDGE

i have been having this problem now for a couple of months and am now officially fed up with it

the problem:

my phone will function properly for most of the day but ill notice a lack of emails coming in and see that i am still connected to the network (EDGE in capitals) so to test if everything is working properly i try sending a pin or email and it wont send. to fix this i pull the battery, the phone resets and all is good.

i hate having to do this all the time. i never know when i should do it and it just shouldnt be happening. this is my third 8800 from cingular/at&t. the other two had the same issue and they sent me replacements. ahhhhh !!! it seems like there is something causing this maybe on the software side of things. is the something i can refresh or a preference list i can delete?

Are you using the same sim card as in the first device? You might consider getting a new sim card.

It's just strange that both devices do it. You might also try updating the OS on the device to this one:
